Love the atmosphere. The wait staff is rude and unproffesional. The food needs a lot of work. Too bad as the Valley could really use a class act. If they do not improve the atti...

what's so bad? 11/12/2002

Tonight the hostess could not have been nicer and our waiter could not have been more professional. The valet could have used some help but over all the experience (only my second time there) was really outstanding. Pros: cool environment, way pretty staff Cons: can be hard to find more

finally! 10/21/2002

Thank you to whoever made this place! I am in shock that this kind of place even exists in L.A. Especially in the valley, where the places to go out at night are AWFUL! The food was great and so was the atmosphere. I just wish it wasn't so hard to get reservations on the weekends. Pros: smoking, Inexpensive Cons: Small more

This FIREFLY Landed On A Bug Zapper!!! 10/16/2002

FIREFLY tries to hard to create a Hollywood bar scene attitude in Studio City. As a frequenter of everything from SKY BAR to THE STANDARD to NORTH to KOI to DEEP to DADDY'S down to great dives such as BOARDNERS, been everywhere. Don't mind a reasonable wait if it is justified. On a Thursday night, the doorman seemed to think having a line out the door would somehow build business / create a buzz. Inside, the bar was half empty at best. If you want the attitude, drive into Hollywood. Do yourself a favor and skip FIREFLY. Cons: Pretentious more

Great for the Valley 9/17/2002

Finally a fun upscale place in the Valley. If you dont want to deal with Hollywood attitude try Firefly. Fun group, great atmosphere - love the library of books and the outdoor booths. Coed bathrooms are a laugh but make it interesting. Nice to have a glass of wine with friends during the week or have a fun night with friends on the wknd. Food is alright - nothing great but no complaints. Pros: atmosphere, place to go in valley more

Firefly Fizzles! 9/16/2002

The restaurant was great in the beginning -- but now please! The doorman is obnoxious and has people standing in line to create a false ""buzz"" when the place is actually empty. He's rude and terribly mean to people. Wake up and snap out of --the drinks are over priced - the food is bland and boring. I'd rather go to Mexicali's. more

Never going back 9/14/2002

I used to love coming here when it first opened, and now this place is so full of itself that management has significantly raised the drink prices. $9.50 per martini and $8.00 for a Chimay beer definitely left us feeling bent over when we got the bar tab. Plus it's so busy that you have to chase your server down to get a drink. This place has gotten so pretentious and overpriced that it's not worth it anymore. Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Overpriced, Pretentious more

not so bright 9/11/2002

Love the atmosphere. The wait staff is rude and unproffesional. The food needs a lot of work. Too bad as the Valley could really use a class act. If they do not improve the attitude of the waitstaff and managment they will not have the longevity they Im sure are hoping for. Please clean up your act. We need a great place to hang in the Valley. Cons: waiting in a line, great ambiance more

Don't be fooled! 8/6/2002

It looks like a nice restaurant. The couches, the little patio, and the electronic music set the mood, but the food is . . . not so good. The menu is miniscule and the waitstaff needs a little more training in the curteousness department. Don't judge a restaurant by its cover. Pros: good ambience Cons: terrible service, terrible food, no parking more

Downhill goes the firefly 8/3/2002

I have been going to firefly for about 4 months now. What i have noticed is in the past month the food has declined sharply and the service has gone from mediocre to poor, except for Melissa the bartender, who always has a sure hand. When it first opened it was all so unexpected, the food was very good and the atmosphere was great, but last week when i had dinner it almost seemed as though there was a totaly new staff preparing the food and the front of the house staff was sleepwalking through the night. Its a shame it started out being a real hit. Go for drinks........... Pros: good value, bar, design Cons: service, food quality, gets very crowded more

Why the Firefly? 8/1/2002

Only becaue of the ""buzz"" around it. The Bar and the outdoor patio have a great scene, but its a shame the food and the service cannot be as appreciated. I ordered the Salmon, the least greasiest item on the menu. Our waitress was supposed to see if I could have the Salmon brolied, instead of fried in butter, but never returned. I did not eat and they were nice enough to not charge, so it looks like management is on top of things. Seems like the unisex toilet is part of a new LA trend. There is defintely a haughty vibe coming from the waitstaff, for no reason. Hopefully, its just growing pains. Would go back for drinks, pass on the food. Might help to ""liten up"" the menu. Pros: Scene, Decor, Ambiance Cons: Food, Waitstaff, Door Policy more

Bad Service 7/29/2002

The ambience is great-relaxing and beautiful. On the contrary - the service is no where close. The wait staff is not only unavailable, but most times unfriendly. The food is not very good for the price, but it is edible. One great plus, is a nice bordeaux that they serve in place of a merlot. Pros: Outdoor dining, Not too crowded, In the Valley Cons: Wait staff, Wait staff, Wait staff more

euphoria 7/29/2002

Excellence in Los Angeles dining. I felt like i was in the mix of the best. Excellent food but still affordable. A staff that complimented the restaurant. The design is very cool. Good Job. more

worth it all!!!! 7/26/2002

I visited Firefly the first time a few weeks ago. I have been back at least 10 times since. This place has it all. It is extremely comfortable, cozy, and well worth every dime spent. The staff, although busy at times, is very helpful and professional. The food continues to knock me off of my feet. It is delicious and the menu hits every button without going overboard. The drinks are stiff and efficiently prepared. All at very reasonable prices. Firefly provides what you want without all the hassle of Hollywood. It is truly a gem and a diamond at that. The ownership has hit the nail on the head and understands the idea and meaning of a true restaurant/bar/lounge. Pros: great decor, incredible ambiance, A+ food & service more

the stars 7/26/2002

excellent food and service. not overly impressed with itself. stars above and about. easy to relax and not be oogled. more

Not worth the hype... 7/20/2002

Although the prices are moderate, the fact that you pay $2.50 for every glass of regular iced tea you drink as you beg the waitstaff to actually bring it to your table...this is definately something that amounts to a ho-hum evening out. What do you get for the money: trendy pretention from everyone on staff, a waitress who was more concerned about her appearance than performing her job, a bartender who was swamped with a drink order of three drinks (a fifteen minute wait time for a single glass of iced tea), food that's okay but not anywhere near spectacular but given fancy names (Croque Monsieur = Ham and Cheese for ten dollars) and a blend of semi-name talent from the Studio City area. Do yourself a favor...if you're looking fo a good time out, go to Nonya in Pasadena instead. There, you get exactly what you pay for. Pros: Good looking women, Nice outdoor dining, Beautiful bar Cons: No N/A beer, Very impersonal, Awful service more

Awesome Place. 7/10/2002

Always a crowd pleaser. Just about everytime I go there there's interesting people to see or meet. The co-ed bathrooms are hysterical. Seems to be an older crowd in the early part of the evening but by 10 it's all 20-30 ish types. Food is pretty good, the music is ecclectic and the atmosphere's the best in the area. You have to go to Hollywood to find places like this. Guy/Girl ratio is always about even. Melissa, the cute blonde who works the bar, makes an awesome martini. Ask for it New York style with Belvadere Vodka. Cons: No California Wine! more

Worth waiting in line 6/21/2002

A definite must for people who love to go to unique restaurants and have a few rounds. The atmosphere had a great feel and the people on the day I had gone made the plae even better. Try ordering the tripple sec and rum runner drink....always a crowd pleaser Pros: food quality, atmosphere Cons: long wait more

Expected a little more 5/30/2002

Sure, the place looks nice (I like the center fireplace outside and the martini loung-feel inside), but the food is blah. Dinner was also a bit spoiled by the fact that the valet locked our keys in the car and had no way to get in. He had to call some people who ""knew how to fix it"" and they did an hour later. Good thing he didnt charge us the $40 fee for that (he kept showing us the receipt); at least he was nice & decent enough not to. more

DESIGNERS? TASTE? WHERE? 5/22/2002

The owners arepart of the LA crowd to begin with, nothing wrong with that but it should be pointed out as the person who wrote the REVEIW forgot to point out. So this means they have a built in audience, which is a plus for them, but how long does this really last??? The food, well it was OK, with some many good places closer to me I woul d not take the extended drive for this. Well if you like design that is straight from Pottery Barn then you should take the drive, hey this is how I feel do I have to add sugar to make everyone feel good?? Cons: Potter Barn Design more

Valley High 5/20/2002

Finally, a cool place to hang out in the Valley. Slink into your size-2 Earl Jeans and soak in the atmosphere. more
