Great Diner, Great Breakfasts, Outstanding Pancakes! 11/13/2007

Du-par's is the late night diner of choice for me and my circle of friends. I normally will get the corned beef hash breakfast or a short stack of pancakes. I had the strawberry ice cream once and it just did not taste good but you don't come to Du-par's for ice cream. The breakfasts, pancakes, sandwiches and soups are safe bets. Pros: Breakfasts and Pancakes. Plus it's open 24 hours. Cons: Can get crowded for breakfast on weekends more

Best Pancakes Ever 5/3/2007

Very busy for breakfast on the weekends, but it's worth the wait for those pancakes! It's too bad that they don't have a breakfast combo with the pancakes, you have to order them individually and add other items to it (ie eggs, sausage, bacon...) which can get expensive quickly. But don't be tempted to add too much because the pancakes are huge! Pros: Good food - worth waiting for Cons: Can be a long wait more

Classic diner food done decently 11/12/2006

Du-par's in Studio City has the confident vibe of a place that knows you love it, and you'll keep coming back for more, no matter what. And in some ways, it deserves to feel that way. It's always busy and filled with diners who love its brand of all-American comfort food and generous portions of hearty breakfast fare. And I can't say anything bad about the place -- I had a perfectly good breakfast of eggs and bacon with pancakes there. Was it out of this world? No, but it was decent -- and in a world where you can't even count on a short-order cook understanding what the words 'over medium' means, you take what you can get. Would I go back? Sure -- but would I go out of my way to go there if I wasn't in the neighborhood, or had to work extra hard to get a parking space in that popular mini mall? No -- it was good, but not worth any extra early morning aggravation. Pros: Friendly service, decent diner food, consistent quality Cons: parking can be a bear, expect a wait on weekends more

Best Pancakes in town! 8/10/2006

I've been going here since I was like 4 (30 years). Used to sit at the counter with my grandpa on Saturday's and have a short stack of pancakes with butter. I haven't had pancakes like these anywhere else. This place is the real thing too - even the servers have been there for like 100 years. Saturday mornings can be real busy. The coffee's better than average. I don't really think the rest of the menu is anything special. But why would you care when the pancakes are so good! Pros: Best pancakes! And I've tried them all (I think) Cons: Can be busy, syrup is cheap stuff (be a geek and bring your own :-)), not cheap for diner food more

Just The Pancakes 9/15/2005

Pancakes must be ordered with "butter", they are to die for. Service could have been better, coffee was almost okay, over priced, didn't try the dessert, ham/bacon & eggs were nothing out of the ordinary, I mean, like how can anyone srew that up. Pros: Pancakes Cons: service, price, coffee more

Just dont bother 2/18/2005

The food was just okay. The service was awful. I waited 15 min for a refill of coffee. The menu was wrong on things, they "ran out' french toast on a saturday morning! And the prices were not worth the food! I will never go here again, unless I am starving. Don't Bother. Pros: um... none Cons: service, prices, value more

Sub-Par's 8/19/2002

This down-home diner is true to it's reputation of midwestern classics and nostaglically comfortable scenery. However magnetic this may be, the determining factor remains at the quality of service. If you have time to kill waiting for the corrections to your dish, or just that your waiter/waitress is too busy flirting with her their own reflection in the fountain machine...by all means you may be pleasantly satisfied. If not, your intentions on a receiving a standard of service will be burned much like your three-egg omelet. Pros: nostalgia, reasonably priced Cons: poor service, mediocre quality more

It's Trashy, Expect It 6/5/2002

Du-Par's is a trashy diner with an LA attitude. The service is mediocre and the food isn't great but it will provide some comfort. Particularly on those "hungover" mornings when you need as much saturated fat as you can get. Set your expectations to low and you'll be satisfied. more

A staple, but you shouldn't eat staples 5/19/2002

I understand this place is convenient on Sunday when you're hung over and need something greasy to avoid the return of last evening's concoctions, but this is ridiculous. There's always a line which is fine, but they are rude and unaccommodating to answer a quick question. The food is NOT good, it's just convenient. They don't even carry regular maple syrup. Boysenberry is NOT a syrup. It's a berry and it stinks. I've seen Anthony Kiedis bring his own maple syrup which is smart. Regardless, it's not worth dealing with rude people, bad food and long lines just because I missed the breakfast menu at Micky D's. more
