Editorial review from Citysearch 10/16/2012

Soaring Over California. If you can only get on one ride, get on this one. It's a very unique concept, and it's quite an experience. The whole mechanics behind it is really interesting as well. more

THIS IS MY HOME AWAY FROM HOME! 8/10/2011

I LOVE THIS PARK!! Here is why. Best rides, best food, best atmosphere. The park is undergoing consctruction on some additions, but most of it is done. The new Carsland will be completely done in 2012!! Despite the reviews I have read on the park being a construction zone?most of what was under construction is now done!! I am the park every week, everyday and this park is so magical. It's more of a liberal park, you got the option of having a glass of wine at cocktail hour, but for those that don't think alcohol should be in theme parks, well there is a whole other park not but 2 feet away from DCA that does not offer alcohol! Personally sipping a Kunde Chardonnay at 5pm and watching park goers is relaxing. The prices are not outrageous to me?because it's a theme park and I expect to pay $6 for a glass of wine, heck that is what most charge anyway! And with the addition of the new Little Mermaid Ride and World of Color, this park is not only got it, but in 2012 it's going to have much more!! So if you crave a corn dog, or want table seating at a Italian restaurant in the heart of the theme park ?this park is for you! more

Did I mention you get to DRINK 11/9/2009

Get your money's worth, because this park doesn't have much and you'll be quickly disappointed. Here's how you make the most of your visit: 1. Make sure you score a FastPass for California Soaring. It's the BEST ride in the whole park! I try to go as often as possible, if it weren't for the killer line! Oh yeah, if you're terrified of heights, it's still worth getting over your phobia for this one. 2. CORN DOG!!! CORN DOG!!! CORN DOG!!! Literally the BEST one I've EVER had! I'd go for the spicy. And if you've got buddies to share the cheese on the stick --- it's worth the heartburn. 3. ALCOHOL!!! Yes, a theme park where you're allowed to get inebriated. It's even ENCOURAGED since they've stuck a whole wine tasting section to represent Napa. If red, white or sparkling is NOT your thing --- there's Margaritas and Hefenweisen just around the bend. 4. ROCKIN' OUT to the Red Hot Chili Peppers on California Screaming. 5. Did I mention you get to DRINK and GO ON the rides? Just try not to puke!!! more

Taking The Magic Out Of The Magic Kingdom 3/1/2009

I felt like I was in a construction zone. Oh wait... I was in a construction zone.\r \r I've been coming here every year with my daughter (for the last 7 years). Now that she's almost 17, I can feel the time that I have left with her to do trips like this, slipping away.\r \r Talk about taking the Magic out of the Magic Kingdom.\r \r The 'ocean' near the coaster and ferris wheel had been completely drained, and instead of shimmering waters, the guests were treated to a panorama of heavy construction equipment (I'll try to upload pictures).\r \r The ferris wheel was surrounded by scaffolding, in preparation of attaching a large Mickey face to the centre of the large wheel.\r \r There were plywood walls in many areas for the purpose of limiting the exposure of new development. One bridgeway was closed to the public and covered in green tarps.\r \r When I am charged full admission prices, there are certain associated expectations that come with it. I expected the seaside boardwalk atmosphere I paid for. Not today. Not this week.\r \r I can appreciate the fact that Disneyland is adding new attractions, which should be available in the Spring of 2010. I just wish I knew about if beforehand. There was nothing about the construction on their website. Pros: Great place to be when the illusion is working Cons: When the illusion isnt working, not so great more

Bring on the changes to this park 11/17/2007

I recently heard that this park will be going through some major changes in the next few years. Thank goodness! This park has so much potential and does have some decent e-ticket rides such as the Tower of Terror and Soarin over California. The biggest issue I had was that a lot of the attractions were un-original and uninspired. What sets Disneyland apart from other theme parks is the theming, originality and innovation in their attractions. Those elements are not in the majority of the attractions at DCA. Let's hope the changes they have planned will make DCA reach it's true potential as a Disney theme park. Pros: There are changes coming Cons: We have to wait for them more

Good stuff here 11/14/2006

Aside from the fact that I work for the company and have free access to both parks, California Adventure has been growing on me as of late. I've been here many times over the summer, and while the main park will always hold my favor, I've come to appreciate what's available in CA. First off, California Screamin' is a blast, and actually goes upside down! Soarin' over California is relaxing and fun, and the Aladdin stage musical is cute and very well done. I wasn't such a big fan of Tower of Terror but I don't like sudden drops. The Muppets 3D Adventure is cute. I think the main draw for me is the Santa Cruz-ish Boardwalk. Having been to the real Boardwalk, I'm almost embarassed to say I prefer the one here. It's cleaner at least. But the main draw for me has to be the Ferris Wheel. Ask for a locked-off cab vs. the rolling one for a romantic experience at dusk. The one major drawback here is that they close at 9pm. Pros: More adult than Disneyland Cons: closes earlier than Disneyland more

Almost Best Theme Park in the World! 7/14/2006

I loved this theme park. it was so freakin awesome and i loved every minute of it! I would go there every day, but then i would get sick of it, as with any other theme park. It was nice to have two parks right next to each other, also. I reccomend going early in the morning or around lunch time. that is the best time to go. Pros: Great Rides, fun shows, nice parade Cons: nothing more

1 st place 6/2/2006

this them park is the best one i've ever been to my son loved California Screaming and also Grizzly River Run. I think that this is the best theme park ever. I highly recomend this theme park. Pros: fun, exciting, good rides Cons: bathrooms, lockers more

Second Time 5/24/2006

Went on Sat May 20th. My second time there. First time was opening week and I was very disappointed in the rides. Went to ride Tower of Terror and that ride is the best in the park. Saw Aladdin show at the Hyperion Theater and was fantastic. The actor who played the Genie was almost as good as Robin Williams. He made the show. That was the highlight of the day. At the end of the day, we were saying we should have went to Magic Mountain. more

GrEaT RiDeS, FuN MeMoRiEs..GrEaT! 6/19/2005

I really enjoyed going to DCA. It really was fun and the memories are definitely perpetual. The Roller Coaster was such a thrill and quite enjoying. We went on twice before noticing that the time had passed by quickly. The water ride is quite thrilling and frankly a blast. The Electric Parade was priceless. The 3-D Movies were really exhilarating & humorous at the same time. It was definitely an experience and definitely something I'll remember for a long time. DCA is a true promiser. They DO come through! Great for the young ones. It's definitely a good idea to go during the week and not the weekend because of the crowd. Pros: Thrilling Rides, Fun Times, Great Family Outing Cons: Pricing, Operating Hours, Long Weekend Lines more

Great Job DCA!! 7/15/2003

Yes,I am a season passholder, and no,I don't do pin trading. To those who gave bad reviews-you don't know what you're talking about. This park has tons to do-Soarin',Screamin',Muppets 3D, a Bug's Land,The Pier,Golden Dreams, the Hyperion Theatre,Millionare Play-It,River Rapids, and they even have a huge forest play area for the smallest ones. The food is fantastic- and you can split things to make it cheaper. Kids are cheap at $2-$4 per meal. There are some really great reastaurants- likeStoryteller's cafe in the DCA Hotel.Theres lots more to come in thefuture- it wasn't supposed to be another disneyland and I'm glad it isn't.As far as admission goes- $43 is a little steep for one park, but then again so is $45 for Disneyland!!Buy the season pass- you only have to go 4 times per year for it to pay for itself. For those that don't come that often, check the internet for deals. Pros: Great Food!!, Good Attractions!!, Rarely Crowded Cons: Short Hours of ops more

fun 5/12/2003

California Adventure is a fun park. There is not too much for the little ones to do but the older kids will love it. Soarin over California is the best ride there. You can smell the oranges over the orange groves, and feel the cold over the snowcapped mountains. The muppets in 3d was also fun. The electrical parade is just as great as it was in disneyland. Compared to disneyland, the lines are quite short. Pros: electrical parade, fun rides, love for california Cons: high price, not for little kids more

What happened to my money? 8/15/2002

I did not like Disney California Adventure mainly because of pricing. Why do I have to pay $43 to see a park half as small and not as entertaining? The rides aren't that great, except for Soaring Over California. It's not worth the money until they expand. The rides at the original park are a lot better and there are more of them. Pros: atmosphere Cons: crowded, expensive, too small more

Fire Michael Eisner 8/8/2002

Well, I'm sure the ones on here giving DCA a ""10"" are the ones who are there every weekend with their passes, wearing those overhyped and overpriced pieces of tin, otherwise known as ""Pin Traders""-is there ANYTHING Disney won't do to suck the $$ from us? I'm sure Walt would have never have taken the prices to this extreme, and have wanering photographers in the park-is there ANYTHING MICHAEL IESNER WON'T DO FOR CASH? As far as the park goes, its alright, but the BEST is THEY SELL BEER!! AS far as the rides go, they're about Knotts Berry Farm Quality. Sad, isnt it? Pros: Beer, Wine, Live Bands Cons: Hollywood Backlot, Prices of Food, Employee Attitude more

Great Addition to Disneyland! 7/23/2002

I have been to Disneyland many times, and each time I go I get more and more bored. California Adventure was definitely something Disneyland needed. It doesn't have many kids rides, but they have a really neat roller coaster (something Disneyland doesn't have), and a neat ride where you soar over California. With the Park Hopper pass, you can now feel like you get your money's worth by going back and forth between parks. Pros: new park, clean, bigger rides Cons: few kids rides, high prices, not many rides more

little to do for little people 6/13/2002

Two little girls with little to do. There just wasn't enough eye candy or rides on which my little ones could go on here. The only real enjoyment they got was running around in some of the water play areas and the Electric Light Parade (which has always shined). If you have small children, go across the plaza to Disneyland instead or head south to Lego Land. more

An Adventure All Right! 6/2/2002

I had the worst time at California Adventure. First of all there are not many rides, and the rides that were of interest were not functioning. I rode the roller coaster over and over again just to feel as if I got something for my money. We waited all day for the wayer rapids ride and while in line they closed it do do "" not enough water""!!! Have you ever heard of such a thing, not enough weater for the water ride. It was so horrible, I will NEVER return! There were too many restaurants and not enough activities/rides. Cons: EVERYTHING more

Fun, but Overpriced 5/13/2002

There simply aren't enough rides. I know money ran short towards the end of construction, and I also know that there are plans to expand the park in the future. But for now, they can't justify charging as much as they do for Disneyland with such limited attractions. Also, the lack of mature trees in this new park creates a big problem in summer -- no shade. This is especially bad when it's over 100 degrees outside. \r \r Regardless of whatever promotions they market to try and entice you to come here during the dog days of August, don't do it. \r \r On the positive side, the rides they do have are a lot of fun (Hollywood Limo excluded). Soarin Over California is a wonderful experience for all ages. The rollercoaster blows anything at Disneyland out of the water. The Maliboomer is intense. The bees are fun, too. Pros: can get parkhopper, rollercoaster rocks!, soarin' in great Cons: limited rides, not enough shade, overpriced more
