Had 4 tires replaced on my Camry. Two weeks later, tried to remove one tire to repair washer fluid reservoir, and discovered several lug nuts were cross-threaded. If you've never experienced this, what happens is the tech starts the lug nut cross-threaded relative to the stud threads, then applies lots of torque with his impact wrench. The lug nuts are seated against the wheel, but when you try to loosen it, they will only turn with a great amount of torque. Two choices: leave the frozen lug nut on the bolt, or snap the lug bolt off. Final count: 6 out of 10 on front axle were cross-threaded! Took car in to resolve issue. Asst Mgr. (he would not let me talk to Mgr) said I would need to leave car with them so they could replace studs (lug bolts). Discount Tire provided a ride home and back. Took most of the day to deal with this (7:30 to 4:30).
In retrospect, I should have known something was amiss when I checked the air pressure at home right after installing the new tires. ALL the valve cover caps were cross-threaded and the tire pressures were random from 29 to 35! How can you cross-thread those little plastic caps??? How can you cross-thread a lug nut???
Bottom line: I was fortunate that my teenage daughter, who drives this car, and can change a flat, was not stranded on the side of the road. After a previous Discount Tire screw-up (another location about two years earlier) where they placed 1 tire of another brand and size on my car after buying a set of 4, the Mgr. gave me a certificate for $100 off my next set of tires. All I ended up with after all this recent crap I went through was a handshake and a ""We're sorry."" I am at the end of my business dealings with Discount Tire. Blagg Tire Company here i come.
Pros: A/C is cold in waiting area
Cons: POOR workmanship. Serious safety issue.
