Pat Dean & Walker Landscaping - go elsewhere! 1/10/2012

I found this company at the Austin Home Show and now I wish I'd never gone! I had them do about $6000 worth of landscaping and stone work and it's been a disaster. From the beginning with Pat Dean I was promised everything under the sun and had no reason to worry - until the actual work with Josh began. My plants were NOT as described and I didn't even get the 3 specific plants I requested because Josh told me he ""didn't like them."" I also had pre-exisiting items dug up and removed after I had pointedly told them to leave them - even discussing this with Pat. The plants I did get were sickly and most died quickly (before the summer) and only later did I discover they planted items that needed heavy sun in a heavily SHADED area. They obviously had no clue what they were doing. After I called to have plants replaced (under the warranty) and cracked stonework fixed I learned how skilled these 2 men are at evading phone calls. It took months - literally months - to even catch them long enough to have a phone conversation. They ignored messages, blamed each other (which was ridiculous!), and had me speak to a secretary so many times even she was annoyed with their follow-up. When they finally came out to replace items I was given a ""new"" contract with new warranty rules - it was absurd. Since that time I've called again and again to have the new plants (which died even faster than the first set) replaced and stonework fixed (which has gotten even worse) and got to play phone-tag-evasion all over again. When I finally caught Josh one day I had possibly the rudest phone call ever, being told he ""didn't care if we have a problem."" He blamed the drought and God on all my problems and said therefore he wasn't responsible. When I pointed out I watered my yard and plants to the extreme and most everything (including my grass) had survived and was still green he didn't seem to get the idea. Since then I've had nothing but total silence. Now I've hired a new company to repair my crumbling/sinking porch and walkway and replace plants they just laughed at. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go elsewhere for your needs. These 2 men are clearly not professional and there are so many better companies out there. Good luck! more

Satisfied Customer 5/25/2011

We contacted Pat Dean this winter regarding landscaping our back yard. We were impressed with Pat’s keen eye for design, flow and color as well as his expertise as a master gardener. We did our homework prior to signing the contract and Pat was very honest and forthcoming about what had transpired over the past couple of years. With that we felt comfortable proceeding and have been very pleased with the results. Pat and his crew worked very hard and diligently to create a beautiful oasis for us, with rock formations, and plantings consistent with our wish list. Follow-up on the project has been great and Pat has been very responsive. He has also been very helpful in instructing us on pruning, insect control and maintenance. We are very happy to recommend Pat and his landscaping crew for your future projects. more

Pat Dean is being unfairly targeted in Austin 5/20/2011

Within the past year, we have had a great deal of high dollar work and contact with Pat. He is a man of his word; tells the truth and follows up. \r \r I an aware of a person(s) who is trying to sabotage him through the internet. I do know that in the past, he was left holding the bag when someone cheated him and left town with the profits of a company. He struggled to make good on the promises which had been made and suffered financially himself.\r \r We are more than pleased and are apalled at the black listing which is being tried against this honorable man. more

BEWARE OF THIS MAN 7/19/2010

Pat Dean took a very large deposit from us. After starting the work he would only come occasionally after my hounding him on the phone. He left a huge pile of dirt in the way of water runoff in our backyard. Of course, after promising to have it removed immediately, (it did not happen) it rained very heavy and flooded our house. The insurance he told me he had was non-existent. We not only had to fix our house out of pocket, but had to hire someone else to finish the job. The water fixture he did was incorrectly done so had to be redone by someone else. Almost ruined us financially not to mention what it did to us emotionally. We have followed him for the past 5 years and I wish I had posted on here earlier but we were hoping to get some kind of resolution but not a thing. He has changed his business name at least 6 times and is advertising in Elegant magazine and Austin Coupons. I alerted Elegant Living but they still carried his ad. He is now register as Walker Landscaping under a Lic# registered under another persons name but the link goes straight to his old website. By doing this he has gotten by the BBB. This guy who claims to be a ""good Christian"" is just another con man! He has no shame! We gave hime benefit of the doubt originally but this has gone on much too long. He has no shame! . . Cons: He is one! more

GLAD I AM NOT ALONE 1/29/2010

I got taken too and have never even seen him since he took $3500 as partial payment for a backyard landscape project. Never returned any of my calls. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS UNETHICAL PERSON! more

i CANNOT BELIEVE WE WERE SO DUMB-.. HE IS TRULY A CON/ AND SMART ONE. HE THINKS! \r I CAN'T BELIEVE ANYONE COULD STAY IN BUSINESS.. AND HE STILL ADVERTISE'S IN A LOCAL BUSINESS MAG.. wE COULD HAVE DONE BETTER TO PULLED SOMEONE OFF THE STREETS TO DO THE JOB.. HE DIDN'T COME BACK TO FINISH THE ROCK WORK OR LANDSCAPE AND DO THE FINISHING TOUCHES. WE HAVE CALLED AND CALLED HIM MONTH AFTER MONTH. I AM ASHAMED TO ADMIT TO ANYONE HOW MUCH WE PAID THE MAN FOR THE HORRIBLE JOB HE DID..THINK TWICE BEFORE USING HIM Cons: WON'T RETURN YOUR CALLS more

Unethical and dishonest 6/13/2009

What started out as an exciting, fun, landscaping project has turned into a nightmare!! I have paid Mr. Dean thousands of dollars since November, 2008 for extensive landscape work including a sprinkler system and a backyard water feature. Both of these things had to be completely redone by other contrators for over $2,000. after Mr. Dean was unable to do so. He also took over $500 from me for some landscape lighting which was never installed and he never refunded this money as requested on 2-24-09. Even a letter to him from my attorney did not receive a reply. I learned from my attorney that Mr. Dean had filed for bankruptcy and that I would probably never see a return of this money. So true!! I completely agree with ""victimofconman"" and wish I had read these reviews prior to trusting a so-called Christian man. We live and learn. Cons: Shoddy work and unethical, dishonest business practices. more

Pat Dean Horror Story 5/15/2009

In late 2006, I hired Pat Dean to put a wall fountain in my courtyard. I paid $4750, one half up front and one half at completion. Although he started VERY slowly, he did, eventually, after months of nagging, construct the fountain. A week later, it started leaking. It also splashes so much it empties itself overnight. It's a HUGE mess (after several band-aid iterations) and an eyesore in my lovely courtyard. I've been on his butt for over two years. I had NO idea he'd declared bankruptcy since my project ended and was both astonished and alarmed to read it in these reviews. The fountain is going to have to be demolished and replaced, I'm afraid. I suppose, since I've learned about the bankruptcy, I'll end up paying for it myself. I'm so sorry for those who have lost so much money. Do not deal with this man or you'll be ever-so-sorry you did. Cons: He's a mess and so is his work more

WARNING- DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS MAN! 1/23/2009

Pat Dean took a $14,000. deposit from us (we were having a huge job done), and then filed bankruptcy. We have not been compensated for this. He had already been in contact with his bankruptcy attorney when he took our deposit and the attorney had advised him not to take anyone else's money. This did not stop him. He is nothing but a con man. He is a total liar and if laws were just -- should not be allowed to be in business again ever -- doing anything. He should be in prison. Cons: will get ripped off more

What an incompetent person! Beware!! 12/17/2007

We hired Pat Dean to landscape our front and back yard with pavers and shrubs. He was extremely difficult to reach. After putting us off for weeks, he said we were his priority for the next week, and finally had some folks lay down the pavers for the front, but they didn't finish the job. When we called, he said his crew was booked! It's been over 3 months, and we're still waiting for him to finish the front. He hasn't even started working on the back. Cons: hard to reach, doesn't finish the job, consistently lies about his availability more

Poor Business Practices 6/29/2007

I can't comment on Pat Dean Landscaping's installation or work in general, but I can tell you that the company is operating on a shoestring budget. After giving Pat Dean a deposit of almost $3,500, he kept putting the project off until finally we cancelled. He said he would return the deposit. Not only did he not return our deposit but he wanted us to sign an agreement allowing him to pay us back in installments over 90 days! In other words, he has spent our deposit funding a current landscaping project. To date we have received only $2,000 back from him and I doubt we'll see the rest. He's also a real estate agent with Keller Williams, although he's obviously not selling too many houses! \r \r Just be warned...he's a nice guy but obviously not a good businessman.\r more
