Went to eat the rib dinner 6/30/2010

I drive truck across all 48 states and find that there ribs are the best real smoked ribs, Gary Johnson the owner showed me his smoker, they do not use liquid smoke at all. Very happy with food and service, Hey Conway's keep up the good work. Pros: ribs were great Cons: they don't have a combination platter more

Went for the food 12/14/2009

If you're a fan of true BBQ, you know what I mean when I say there's no smoke ring. I think they use liquid smoke in place of real wood smoking. If not, they did a sub-par job of it. I had the ribs and my wife had the pulled pork. She wanted brisket but they didn't have any, which seemed odd. Pulled pork was okay, it didn't taste horrible, just didn't have much flavor at all. The ribs were meaty, fell off the bone a little too easily for my taste. Again, they tasted like liquid smoke was used. The BBQ sauce was very good, not too sweet or tangy, a nice blend. The ribs were, in my opinion, tons better than Jerry's Old Town which, for reasons I don't understand, seems to be a well liked place around here. If I couldn't make ribs myself, I may go back to Conways. Pros: Beans Cons: No smoke ring! more

Great place for Smoked ribs, wings, Blues, and Bluegrass. 4/24/2009

Channel 4 Blue Ribbon award for sanitation, Boris and Doris from the Shepherd Magazine called the ribs "" magnificent"". The Weds. Blues Jam and Thurs. Bluegrass is free. the food is very reasonably priced. Pros: Clean, Friendly, Family owned for 40 yrs. Cons: Neighborhood is in need of a facelift. more

The best blues jam in the city on Wen. evenings! Some of the best player around town show up! Conways also supports up and comming local musicains. The grill has some great smoked ""blues food""! The meatloaf sandwich comes highly recomended as does the brisket and corn beef! Pros: Great Blues, Great Grub, Great Service more

good music 12/13/2005

There's an open blues/jazz jam every Wed night. You can hear some really good musicians for no cover charge. There'sa good mix of players on guitar, bass, drums, vocals and horns. A pretty typical old downtown bar. Lots of fun, good people and good entertainment. Pros: good service, good music, good food Cons: old, smokey sometimes, too loud sometimes more

a sort jaunt from Dahmer's meatlocker 8/31/2005

Located in what has become a very bad and notorious part of Milwukee, Conway's is still holding its own as a neighborhood bar. Up-scale Marquette students can get their kicks there and giggle behind their parents back that they've been to a "" real dive."" Mature people can do the neighborhood a service by going there. Conway's very much on the ""Up and Up,"" as far as bars go. Very kind bartenders with the patience to listen to all kinds of drivel from their besotted clientele (I've been one of them). Plus, if you like good Scotch, they carry Glenfiddich. Wish it were Glenlificht, but, hey. Pool table is okay, needs refelting and the cues certinally have to be replaced, but that's part of the atmosphere. Gives the place character, for the sake of you pixies. more

dying breed 6/12/2002
