Justice for Champs 12/3/2008

You can really only rate a place by going there yourself. Champs has been around for 25 years. It is as good as ever. The staff have worked there for years. Its a great place and loaded with characher. The prices are more than reasonable. Just compare them to some of the modern places who charge way more for domestic beers than they do. So in response to the mean spirited people who said crappy stuff about the staff. Your mean. Its also kind of a coincidence that the bad postings were posted around same time. And local new business competators were also mentioned and recommended at Champs expense (bad business, mean spirited). There is a big piece of pie out there and enough for everyone. Successful business people know this. So if the culprits are indeed competitors, or even their friends, remember, carma is a b----. And if your not, give Champs another shot. Pros: Loaded with Character Cons: Beer & Wine only more

This place is ok for a sports bar 10/11/2008

Relaxed, clean and service is fine. Had no problem with the servers, they were ok. The beer is good and they were willing to change the channels. Talked to some of the guys in there, they know their sports. Good place to hang if you like to talk sports and drink beer. It's ok for LA. more

Beauty is sometimes nothing more than a smile 10/6/2008

Never will I return to this place. I hate the whole LA scene but as much as I hate that, I also dislike this side of the spectrum at Champs. The servers are not friendly and slow. The customers are overweight and not attractive. Nascar is on the tv!! enough said. They also have some other car racing thing, where they race around on a dirt race thingy on tv. My date lost big points by bringing me here. He did though look more attractive in comparison to all the other customers. The place was dirty. The waitresses barely acknowledged us and were unfriendly. Best way to describe it is you are warped thru time the moment you walk in the door to some hick bar in Arkansas. If I wanted that, I would move to Arkansas. Ladies, no cute guys at all!! Actually, you might already know this because I didn't see another female in their besides me. Being pleasant by the staff could have made up for soo much. When every other bar is hiring smartly attractive, friendly, high energy staff. This place does the absolute opposite. If anyone can recommend a good sportsbar, with clean tables, clean floors and a friendly staff in the valley, please inform me. Oh! with cute Guys too please!! Pros: location Cons: everything else, dirty, service is bad, food disgusting more

Bar food that can't be beat 1/7/2008

We ordered the double cheeseburger, turkey melt, and turkey burger. All were outrageously good bar food. Our sides were onion rings, fries, and potato salad. Fries and rings were homemade and great. Salad was bulk food and gross. But its a bar so who cares, I shouldn't be ordering potato salad at a bar. Pros: Food, Service, Sports bar atmosphere, and happy hour Cons: Ohio State fans, truly grungy but not too bad more

Goodtimes had by ALL !!!!!!!!!!! 1/17/2007

I've been going here for Monday Night Football for years, the owner (a real character) does this awesome Sports Trivia Show at the Halftime where you can win a FREE beer, very fun, everybody gets into it. Cheap beer (beer/wine only), good food, great service (a mom & pop kind of pub), pool tables, darts and plenty of TVs. A fun local bar. Goodtimes had by all!!!! Pros: Cheap Beer, fun people , popular but not trendy Cons: closes at 2am more

Be careful when you order beer from the tap 6/1/2006

Last time I visited the place, I ordered a pitcher of Bass. Instead I got a pitcher of Sam Adams. Since I have been drinking both of them for a while, the difference in taste was very clear. When I told the waitress about it, she insisted it was Bass from a freshly opened keg. So be careful when you order beer from the tap. Buffalo wings were awesome. Turkey melt was soggy and did not taste good. Overall, a good place to go after work. Or to watch sprts (2 big screen TVs) more

Surprise Surprise 10/2/2003

Not much to look at from the outside, CHAMPS is a true ""Neighborhood Bar"". Even if you are a first-timer, you feel right at home here. Cheap drink, good food, tough-love service... And EVERY COLLEGE FOOTBALL GAME YOU WANT!!!!! Seriously, I have been in CA for nearly three years now and this is most comorting, non-pretentious pub I have found. If fact, if you are looking to be ultracool and trendy, please don't come. This is a serious pub, for serious game-watching, serious drinking and serious good times. Pros: Cheap, Relaxed, College Football Cons: Hmmm?, Well?, No booths I guess? more

Champs not nessecarily a winner... 10/8/2002

Champs used to be a great bar in Burbank. Used to be is the operative term here. Within the past few years the management, and the staff have been really rude to the customers. The food is ok, if you like basic bar fare. The burgers are mediocre. And, that is one of the few featured items on the menu! Your best bet if you want to go to a fun sports bar in Burbank is to check out Tin Horn Flats, at Magnolia just past Buena Vista in Burbank. They know how to treat their customers, and they serve great food at affordable prices. Pros: Pool tables, big screen tv's, cheap beer Cons: rude staff, very little parking, crappy food more

A Real Champ 5/30/2002

You've got the exposed wood beams, the knotty pine panneling and a decidely blue collar crowd--sort of a vision of what the Valley was like about 20 years ago. It's kind of a refreshing scene overall, sports fans here are much more down-to-earth here than typical LA fans. These folks hang in there, from tip-off to buzzer. None of that silly beat-the-traffic leaving five minutes before the game is over stuff. Pros: Atmosphere more

A place where once you've been everyone knows your name.. Also a free pool table with cheep beer Pros: Fun, Pool, Sports more

Burbank Champ-ions 5/20/2002

Champs is the only sports bar in LA with a local feel. Nice pool tables, lots of tvs with good staff and service. The parking lot is small but lots of parking on the streets. Beer and wine only (although the staff once admitted to having some scotch) but who cares? Want anything but a cold frosty one when you're taking in the game? more

Sport's Heaven 5/19/2002

Be advised, they serve only beer and wine, no hard liqour. And they've been around forever, so if it hasn't happened yet, it's probably not ever going to. My first impression of Champ's was that it was much bigger than I expected it to be. It really doesn't look like much from the street, but it is surprisingly large inside. If you've never been in before and look under 30 prepare to be carded and regarded with more than a bit of skepticism. However, once you ease into the environs, the bartenders and patrons are all pretty friendly. Socialize over a game of pool or darts or that weird quasi-bowling game they have. And yes, this is a great place to catch the ""big game."" Interestingly enough, I was there last during the Olympics. Strange to be in a sport's bar watching ice dancing. Pros: easygoing crowd, games to play Cons: only beer and wine more
