Good Place for the Computer Savvy 8/16/2005

Central Computer Systems, Inc. has three locations in the Bay Area. They have a wide variety of computer hardware, software, and everything else a computer guru likes to salivate over. Not a computer guru? This may not be the place for you. The service is fairly poor and not readily available. Also, it’s easy to get lost in the jungle of computer… stuff. more

Large local computer store 8/11/2005

Family-owned computer superstores are scarce nowadays, especially in the Bay Area, and Central Computer is among the few that is still standing strong. Their prices are not as competitive as Fry's, but I am pleased with their services - whereas Fry's is filled with opportunistic salespeople, Central Computer has staffs who don't work for commission and do actually take time to explain things to customers. Sometimes they do have nice on sale items. more

Decent selection, good price on some 8/5/2005

I've been to Central Computers a few times, the first time to get a external firewire hard drive enclosure, and other times, just to look around for stuff in general. Their prices are pretty moderate in general, but they do have weekly specials and you can get a good deal if you get something on that list. I got my enclosure for $40 a year or two ago (which was a good price at the time - and even now) and the enclosure has been working well for me ever since I got it. It's a small store (not Fry's or anything) so their selection is a little limited, but the it's a lot easier to find stuff you need from Central. more

still fighting 8/5/2005

I truly thought this little computer and accessories store would have lost the fight to the monstrous Fry's competitor years ago, Lo and behold, it is still holding strong on the little corner of Mowry and Newark. I have bought a few computer components at really good prices here, things like cables, ethernet cards, cd rom drives, keyboards, and speakers. It has good deals for electronic accessories. more
