Cardio Express

I moved to Dallas in September and continue to get monthly membership charges. I've called multiple times to have the membership cancelled, but cannot even get the courtesy of a return call. more

I'm tired of dealing with the dramatic, emotional roller coaster, egotistical Eddgar! He consistently bashes the company and also makes members of the gym very uncomfortable! Including myself! I'm very upset and believe cardio express can do without him! more

I enjoy the free classes and find the trainer very helpful. I feel that too many of the cardio machines are broken, no sound, fuzzy, no outlet to plug, etc. sometimes I have to go to a least three or four treadmills before I can find one that has a working TV. I do think more uptodate cardio machines are needed. more

Terrible customer service. Hidden Charges. False advertisement, where they say the rate is a certain price and then charge you more fees that weren't on the adds. They are shysters. Hot, stinky facility. The carpets have stains, there are holes in the walls. They closed down for a week and told all Manchester members to go to the Vernon branch. Did I mention they are over crowded? and they expected Vernon to accept double capacity? I asked customer service if they could tack on a week for my prepaid membership since I paid for services that I did not recieve for the week they were closed. They pulled some ""its in the rules BS and we can't give you a replacement/refund"". I felt that they shystered each member out of $5ish for that week. Its not even about the $5, its about the principal. Awful place. Drive the extra minutes to go somewhere else. Tons of machines are broken. Bathrooms smell awful. Pay the extra money to have respect from someone you are paying your money to. Only reason I gave it a 20% was because the place has work out equipment, and because it has tv's on all the cardio equipment. If you ever walked out of the place and then right back in. They will say ""hi how are you doing today?"" again. They are like automated robots. more

I've been here a few times as a guest. They have a decent selection of cardio equipment, no complaints there. The issue for me is the weight section. They have a mediocre selection machines that are very haphazardly scattered around. There is also really nothing for free weights. Just a few dumbells in their all-purpose room. more

WOW, where do I start with this piece of s*it gym !? I call up the gym to ask if there is a free trial and the guy explains to me yes there is a 7-day free trial for the gym. I'm a college student and its 12:00am, my boys and I have been sleeping all day and decided we wanted to lift some steel so we decided to head down to cardio express. We each take some pre-work out jack3d and are ready to destroy the weights, bumping Biggie and 2Pac on the way down getting all jack3d up. We pull up to the gym with one mission, destroy these weights for a good 2 hours. We get inside this place and are ready to go. I tell the dumbo with the ears sticking out like suicide doors at the front that I just called and wanted the 7-day trial and he says no problem just needs to see ID...then things got real messy. My boys and I are ready to start eating 45's, fuming of jack3d and this dumbo little prick tells us we cant get a 7-day trial because we are from NY and they only allow CT ID's even tho we clearly showed him that we attend University of Hartford and live in the area. The prick showed no remorse and stated ""yeah I shouldve told u guys over the phone you need to be from CT."" I responded with the casual ""no sh*t retard, I just took 3 scoops of jack3d and am ready to go Ronnie Coleman on these wights..LIGHT WEIGHT BABY."" In conclusion, this place sucks and the service is absolutely horrible. more

A bunch of fake jersey shore douches (guys and girls), not enough weights for the amount of equipment in the gym, unhelpful management top to bottom. more

The 24 hour gym closes at 9PM on Fridays. I have moved out of the state and tried to cancel my membership over the phone. I was passing through town tonight and figured I would get one last workout and cancel my membership on the way out. At 855 I ended my workout and made my way to the front desk. Apparently the 3 workers were too busy herding other members out and could not be bothered with my request. The assistant manager working (Joe Petrow) explained to me the computer system would not allow him to precess the request after the gym closes. Am I supposed to believe the system locks out at 9:01? I called him out on this lie and he tried to have me call in my cancellation or come back when they are open. OPEN?!?!?!? I am standing in front of him and 2 other workers. How are you not open? I explained that I live out of state and they will not accept the cancellation over the phone. I politely asked him again to do us a favor and just help us out. He said that he had explained this to us and we can send a certified letter to cancel. By this time he could have keyed in our request and we would be done, right? At this point I asked for his name, and he refused to provide his full name. I asked for the owners name, and again I was denied access to this valuable info. I explained to him it is important he passes this off to a superior before he further alienates a customer. At this point he started to raise his voice and accused me of trespassing and threatened to call the police on me if I do not leave. I stayed calm and explained that this is hte first time I have ever been talked to in this manner in a place of business. We went back and forth. I stayed calm and he had a serious roid rage episode. I am just chuckling inside thinking of the experience. If this was a sitcom nobody would believe the premise. I did shoot him some barbs such as asking if this was his first job, asking if they have a policy to yell at people trying to quit the gym, if he was capable of taking a step back and realizing when he is wrong. I think the comment that really set him off was when I explained that the internet exists and it is easy to document this exchange of wits. I did actually write down some quotes and asked him if he wants to give me further rope to hang him with. Long story shot, he called the police on us. We offered to leave if he gives us his name and the owners name. He preferred the route of waiting an extra 15 mins for hte police to show up. Do you realize you could have taken care of this 20 times by now? I am sure I am leaving a ton out, but hopefully you get the point. Stay away, and if you do join make sure you talk to anyone but Joe Petrow when you need any type of customer support. As a business owner myself I would suggest Cardio Express to reprimand Joe Petrow, and give all employees additional training...or they could hire an assistant manager with an ounce of common sense. more

Cardio Fitness Manchester is a great gym. I started going there and right away it was like a small reunion of old friends I knew from High School. The Staff is very nice and mostly cute females which is a plus. It can get crowded but I have never had an issue working in with someone I didn't know. I recommend no one use the Male Personal Trainers however, as they are not very impressive and having been in the Army for many years I probably no more then all of them combined. The Female personal trainers however seem decent. They motivate me to knock out a few more reps and I don't even pay them! Only drawback so far is their dumbbells only go up to 75LBS so I'm stuck using the bar for the bench press. There is also only 1 M Bar which can be inconvenient at times. Pros: Variety of equipment, nice staff, & cute girls. Cons: Dumbbells only go up to 75LBS, needs more M Bars! more

I used to go to Planet Fitness in Rocky Hill LONG before it became Cardio X and then transferred my membership to Manchester (back of the Parkade). I find amazing that the construction was a 'never-ending' process... walls were unfinished, the paint was also never completed, yet - they kept enrolling people. With a membership well in the hundreds, at $10/month, you'd figure they'd have enough income coming in to PAY A DAMN CONTRACTOR to finish the job!! Pros: beautiful facility, state of the art equipment, clean, brite Cons: wayyyy to many people, some areas are still unfinished more

I just cancelled my membership with Cardio Express - my credit card was stolen (I did file a police report and tried to give it to them) and before I could tell them they tried to charge the card - I paid what I owed them and they WILL NOT waive the $20 service charge. They were more concerned with getting the service charge than keeping a paying customer. The rude girl that answered the phone was completely unhelpful and at this point even if they did waive it I wouldn't stay. Also most of the time the equipment is out of order and the locker rooms tend to be less than clean. more

I cannot review this yet. I was thinking of joining this weekend since my gym is closing. I just read some of the reviews. I am curious as to whether or not the bad reviews are before or after they moved to a newer facility. more

I absolutly love this gym. They are very good to me, greet me by name when i swipe my card. Manchester has new updated machines with tv, and their new facitliy makes me want to come back from college just to use them. I would reccomend this gym to any and all of my friends more

I was a faithful gym member at the vernon gym, and lately I just could not take the amount of ppl and lack of parking. Once this gym opened up, I new i had to try it out. Yes, it is a little farther for me, but i think it is completely worth it. Just in size itself, completely blew the vernon location out of the water. Up to date locker rooms with plenty of lockers. More than enough treadmills and elipticals. Touch screen tv's in each cardio machine, very nice. And parking...it's in a plaza, so you will always find a spot, but it may not be right near the entrance. I used to use the personal training company there at the vernon location and had horrible management. they made my personal trainer leave and then never called me to sign me up under someone else. Needless to say, i took all of his pointers and snuck out of my contract with them. But the gym itself is fabulous and very clean. Hope it stays this way. more

Whoever wrote the last post, I completley understand. The personal trainers are a joke and they are incredibly pushy and obnoxious. I agreed to meet with one so he would leave me alone, but I ended not being able to make it to the appt; well he left me 4 nasty messages. Very unprofessional. Plus, whoever posted before is right, you are trying to use a machine and they are harassing you; and mind you, they only harass the fat people which is so incredibly rude. We know we are fat we don't need you people to make it more obvious by offering us your damn services, esp in front of the entire gym. Go ask Barbie 3 machines down from me if she wants help training. It s just insulting and I refuse to go back b/c I am tired of being harassed. I have yet to cancel but my friend did and the same thing happnened to her, they wouldn't cancel it and kept charging her. All in all, yes, the place is cheap but it's also a nightmare. more

I had a membership at Cardio Express in Manchester, CT. I never really liked the atmosphere, the equipment is always broken and the personal trainers never left me alone. All I would want to do is work out on my own time and at my own pace. I had a personal trainer come up to me while I was on a machine and hound me until I finally talked to him, then he tried to con me into a 600 dollar a month program! He must have gotten my phone number from my information at the gym because he then called me and left me messages for the next week about how much I could benefit from his experience. As if this wasn't bad enough, I moved and changed bank accounts, sense I was moving out of state and there was no Cardio Express near my new place I decided I should cancel my membership. I went into the gym before I moved to let them know in person that I was canceling and to stop charging my account. This was in August. I was told that it would not be a problem and that it might take a month or so for my account to not be charged anymore. Then I received mail from my old address recently that was UNSEALED and said I owe Cardio Express $21.19 for the monthly membership AND $20 for a service charge. I called the number and got horrible service from this Twin Oaks company as well. They basically said its not their problem and they want their money. Then when I called the gym and explained my situation I was again NOT HELPED. The next phone call I make is going to be to the company that starts with 3 Bs because this site wont let me type it. I suggest others with these problems do the same. more

Well, I dont know if other people refer to the other locations , but the one i'm member of is pretty nice. Pros: location, hours, parking, neatness, machines and staff. Cons: it gets way to packed after 5, ALL MACHINES ARE TAKEN. more

I joined Cardio Express back in November of 2007, started to go slow then attended a bit more but always found place, dirty, dirty, smells, and most of all unfriendly clientele NOT COUNTING THE UNPROFESSIONAL individuals behind the counter. They got a new Manager, Michael but everyone calls him Mike or Mickey! Had a problem and went in and cancelled my membership. Then in July I went in to change account that automatic withdrawal for membership, due to the fact that Citibank closed their offices here in CT and only ahve offices in Westport and Fairfield CT, (2 hours away) Gave Mike new account and he convinced me to give them another try and not cancel since they were moving to a newer location in front of plaza. Pros: Nothing Cons: Dirty, Smells, Staff no Professional and knowwhat it means to be a Manager more

If you like it HOT you will LOVE cardio express of Manchester. The heat is on 72! Seriously !!! who would think of keeping a gym at 72!! I personnally like to WORK UP to the sweat ... but the Staff are all very friendly, Chrissy, Alesha, Cindy,Micky, Matt, Manney are all very friendly... I am very sorry to see Alesha go... she 's always was very helpful and cheery and listens and had alot of great ideas for the gym. The staff does what it can but i realize that they aren't the one's with the control because alot of people complain and they have done their best to accomondate. Most of the customers are very friendly and are all ages shapes and sizes. I am older, need to lose weight and get in shape and the staff just treat you like a friend. Keep up the good work. Matt you're killing me!!! and again the gym won't be the same without Alesha! :( Pros: Friendly down to earth staff, friendly down to earth customers, great classes Cons: Way to hot for a gym!
