Carberry's Bakery and Coffee House

Thoughts of the oatmeal maple scone are making me drool over my keyboard. I could eat nothing else, but there are so many things to choose from. Years ago this is the first place I ever had an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie, and they still make them. All their cookies and muffins are yummy. They have some ready made sandwiches as well as made to order during lunch time (can be a little slow). I took some of their sandwiches on a recent flight, and you should have seen those around us looking on with envy. Parking can be a challenge at certain times of the day. I don't drink coffee, but I know they sell a lot of it. more

Carberry's in Arlington is a perfectly nice coffeeshop cafe with lots of baked goods, coffee drinks and a smattering of sandwiches. The muffins are fun (I favor the poppyseed-lime or cinnamon chip) and the coffee drinks are well made. Seating includes some tables as well as long counters with stools. Very crazy and loud on weekends when families come in, but still a fine place to hole up with the paper for a while. more

Do not begin to think that Carberry's Bakery and Coffee House is just another "local version" of the coffeehouse giant Starbucks. Carberry's is a locally owned European style bakery and coffeehouse with locations in Arlington, Somerville and Cambridge. The Arlington location has bakery cases brimming with glazed pastries, stuffed panini-style sandwiches and fresh fruit bowls. Their coffee deserves recognition too. With your typical coffeehouse offerings (cappuccino, lattes, etc.) and a few signature beverages, it is their coffee that sets them apart from the chains. It is deep, dark and slow roasted to give it a warm and inviting flavor. Whether you choose a hot beverage or an iced one, the coffee at Carberry's Bakery and Coffee House will turn any Starbucks fan around. Adding a slice of pastry might make the transition even a little easier. more
