We contracted with Capital Home Improvements to replace the roof and windows for our home. Their price was very competitive and saved us thousands compared to other contractors in the area. The owner and crew are very knowledgeable and explained what would be involved to complete the work in great detail. The crew was very professional and punctual. In spite of frequent rain, the project was completed ahead of schedule. The owner (Paul) and his project Forman kept us informed of progress throughout the project. The crew was careful not to damage landscaping around our home and cleaned the area thorough at the end of each day and at the conclusion of the project. \r \r I am in the process of negotiating a contract with Capital Home Improvements to complete masonry work on our house. I highly recommend Capital Home Improvements to anyone who has similar home improvement needs. more

I met Paul through an online referral service. I was looking for an HVAC contractor to install a new heating system but he called. He introduced me to Thomas Van Epps who works with Capital Home Improvements when heating/plumbing is involved. Thomas was professional and gave me a quote on a new heating system. In a follow-up meeting, Paul showed 45 minutes early and gave me a quote that was $2200 more than Thomas' quote. Paul then got upset when I told him I had other companies lined up for estimates. I think he thought I was just going to make a deal with him. Thomas then explained what work Paul was going to do and I rejected the proposal because I had my own carpenter/Sheetrock person to do Paul's work. Part of the work was to build an ""enclosure"" for the furnace so people wouldn't touch the controls. I got a kick out of that because it was not even something I would have considered, nor needed, but this is how Paul was trying to make some money. I chose another company, Halco, because they let me choose the brand of furnace I wanted, and their pricing was competitive. Afterwards, Thomas countered with an offer similar to Halco, but I declined. I was leery of Paul after our meeting and then reading many negative reviews, including reports on the BBB and various review sites, and of his pressure-like sales demeanor. more

My experience with this company is very similar to others commenting regarding dissatisfaction. We hired them for a kitchen addition in Nov 2013. Owner was in a hurry to start and after asking him twice about the cold and snow that would be coming he said to me ""they"" build houses on the snow."" We agreed to them starting in November as opposed to waiting until spring. They began the project in November but did not finish until June 2014. During this time we too called several times to ask when someone would be here to finish the job and were given several responses including, he had to fire the team that was working on our project, the ""foreman"" on our job was in the hospital because his blood sugar was over 500 and of course it was too cold and snowy!! Once the project was finally completed, 8 months later (or so we thought) we discovered the roof leaks and there are several flaws in the construction. (It is not what the blue prints describe). We have been trying to get owner to come over so we can show him what needs to be fixed. Each time a meeting time is set, no one shows up and no one calls to cancel. So almost 1 year later we are still dealing with this company. Not to mention someone named Jackie from the company hounded us relentlessly for the rest of the payment once the project was ""complete"". She called several times a day, our cell phones, our home phone and even my work phone. She even harassed a coworker of mine. I would not recommend this company to anyone more

BUYER BEWARE!!! Very unprofessional - worst workmanship ever. The ""owner"" always seems very eager for the work and sends crew out in short order so he can get his 50% deposit when they start work. After that, they are nowhere to be found and require much nagging and many phone calls to get work completed. They did my siding last fall and it took them forever to get it done. Now the siding is literally blowing off the side of my house and, of course, they are too busy to fix it. Unprofessional, poor workmanship...owner that just doesn't care... more

Capital Home Improvements just put a new roof on our 35 year old home, this winter's ice was too much for the old roof to take. I built the house myself in 1979 but because of age I no longer feel safe on ladders. We have used Capital on other projects and found their workmanship outstanding, reminds me of the way I used to do things. This job was done in a short amount of time, by very capable workman, and clean-up left nothing for me to do. I wouldnt trust my home to anyone else. \r \r Dan. more

These folks say one thing and do another. It was a mistake to trust them. Unprofessional at best. more

very unprofessional to deal with. 1/19/2012

we had a job done from this company, my friend heard on the radio quite often, so I thought it was the best, professional people to deal with, boy I was wrong!. In the beginning the owner wanted the work so bad and even convinced us to have the other part of the house done also (masonry job). But then again, as soon as we sign up and say yes (no contract paper work signed by the way), the owner keep procrastinating that they are going to show up that day, then the day came, they never showed up, and we never heard from them again, until we have decided we don't want anymore job done by them, then he calls back and say that they are going to come the next day or that week. And even that day that they are supposed to show up, there was something wrong with their machine or whatever that was then again it was postponed. (What's up with the unprofessional manner?) When a business company want your business, they should do anything they could to make the customer happy. Then, after the job was done, he had his employee called me for the payment, he can't even call me about it. He told me in the beginning they accept credit cards, but for some reason when I wanted to pay using credit card they didn't do it. Whatever that was, so I just paid it through check in full, that way I don't have to deal with them again. They're just very unprofessional... I was going to have them do the rest of the house that needs to be done, but not after how they deal with us. I don;t wanna have something to do with this company even in the future. more

Dissatisfied with customer service and attention to detail 8/9/2011

Between May-August, we had a new metal shingle roof installed, an overhang added, and seamless gutters installed. Job took much longer than expected. Frequently called owner, who would state each time that they would come to finish the job ""in a few days"". Well, those ""few days"" took weeks, and it wasn't until they wanted the next payment that they would finally show up. Roof installation looked fine, only concern was that some of the shingles had been nailed on top, instead of being nailed and then the next piece layered over the previous. (My understanding is that nailing over both layers of shingles can cause small holes that allow leaks to get through, but maybe this isn't the case with metal roofs?). When gutters were installed, part of the siding was cut off to make room for the gutter edge, but was not put back afterwards, leaving a hole on each side of the house. We requested that this be fixed, but unfortunately they simply nailed on a piece of white metal over the holes, not bothering to make anything seamless or match like it did previously. Since we paid a lot, we did expect the job to be detail-oriented, but this was not the case. The workers used our trash bins to throw away large pieces of material that the garbage collectors would not take. Not only that, but they left large pieces of wood on the side of our house that we normally do not go on, with NAILS sticking out of them, and on the grass (by the time we noticed this the grass was already dead and brown). Cigarette butts were also left around the house. We requested that they throw away their own trash, and they said that they would be right on it, but it took at least another full week before they took the trash. They also left a ladder up against the side of our house for a few weeks. The owner did ask us if it was alright, but at that point in time the plan was for the team to come back within a day or so to finish the job. After a couple weeks I called and mentioned the ladder, and even mentioned the fact that small children in the area could get hurt (at this point I still didn't know about the wood that they also could have gotten hurt on! not to mention a big lawsuit for us!). The owner said that he would get the ladder ASAP, but once a few days went by, I had to get the neighbor to bring it down for us. One word of advice for anyone that is getting big projects like this done...don't pay up front, and get it in writing in the contract to pay at the end of the job. That way, there's always motivation to do a good job, and a timely one. Once you pay, your priority goes way down. Document everything, and take your time when reviewing their work. Good luck! more
