Party of four went to Butch's last weekend. Cons: Hostile chef

Editorial review from Citysearch 2/9/2013

If you want a good meal with good service dont go here. The restaurant wasnt even half fun, there was maybe 4 tables of people on a friday evening. It took over 15 minutes for the server to even come say hello and get our drink orders. And even longer to get the drinks. This is one of the oldest, dirties places i have ever been too. The servers especially DEBBIE are extrememly bitchy and dont care about their customers and actually will yell at you if you complain. When we asked to talk to the chef, we were told that he wouldnt come to our table that if we had a problem we needed to go talk to him in the open kitchen, he is rude and very arguementative. What happened to the ""CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT"" last time i check its the customers that are the ones that end up paying your paycheck. THIS PLACE HAS BEEN AROUND WAY TO LONG AND NEEDS TO CLOSE. THE food is just ok for a 41 dollar steak I expect some type of seasoning, even if its just a little bit of salt and pepper. WE WILL NEVER go back to this place and will only have bad things to say if someone asks us about this. The Texas roadhouse is 100 times better and way cheaper. and the servers there actually care about their customers and want their customers to be happy. \r more

It's been 4 months since we stumbled upon this place while visiting Milwaukee and we are still talking about how fantastic everything was. This place got everything right and had a pulse. My wife and I are Philadelphia foodies, and rather hard to impress, but we will make it a point to find this place again if we return to Wisconsin again. more

Good service and wait staff 10/10/2011

I visited Butch's Steak House a couple weeks ago with several friends. I really didn't now what it was...just trying to find a place to eat, but was amazed at how great the wait staff was. Prices are reasonable and food good. Thanks. more

Anticipation 1/29/2008

In my job sometimes Im forced to travel. Ive been on site in Portland Mpls Ft Wayne El Monte LA San Fransico etc. so eating out is always an adventure. I've had the bad bad and knock your socks off. I love to tell the story of Butchs, it usually starts with ""In Milwaukee there is this really scary looking place but the food is outstanding."" more

Butch's...Great steaks and fantastic service. 7/25/2007

This place is in downtown Milwaukee. It is in what used to be an old disco. Don't let that stop you though. A very relaxed comfortable place to enjoy great steaks. It was fairly busy last night but the service was fast and pleasent. Whe you walk in the door, on your right is the bar and cooking area. There is also a meat display case. We had reservations and sere seated in a few minutes. The best thing about the atmosphere in the dining room was no canned music. You don't have to yell to talk. Thw steaks were prpared the way we wanted them ind in record time compared to some of the other places I have been to. The prices were fair considering the amount of food you get. A fresh relish tray, and warm bread were on the table before you even sat down. All in all a very pleasent experience. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience, very friendly staff Cons: The menu seems a bit pricey. more

Are you kidding me?? 3/20/2007

I hear people rave about Butch's all the time, so I finally had to go there for a steak. This place in no way lives up to the hype. The first this we saw when we enter the store was this tacky meat case with cryovaked steaks. Not exactly classy. Your Pick N Save meat case looks nicer. The steaks were bland and boring. They came severely undercooked, and had to be sent back twice. You would think that a place that specializes in steak would at least know how to cook one. The baked potato tasted like it had been around for a while, but received a new one when we sent back our steaks. We overheard a woman next to us ask if her lobster was supposed to look like that to her husband, and could see it was undercooked also. I don't mind paying $40 for a good cut of meat that is cooked correctly, but this place is not the place. There as so many better steakhouses within the area to go to. Save your time and money for somewhere else. Pros: Service was okay. Cons: Food taste and preperation. more

Butch's has it all! 1/14/2007

Butch's Old Casino Steakhouse is more than a great restaurant, it is a dining experience. The small, former disco reminds me of a Grandparent's mid-70's den- complete with fireplace and thick-pile carpet. Pros: Ambience, Service, Perfectly Prepared Steak Cons: Price (but worth it) more

Butch's - Always Pleases 5/31/2004

Butch's has long been my favorite Milwaukee steak house. Must start with cocktails at the bar. An Absolut Martini with a picled mushroom is my preference. Good bartenders, a chance to peruse the menu and experience the sizzle of the grill and hustle of the wait staff. Escargot is a great starter. Pick a steak...any steak...they're all magnificent. The pork chops are spectacular. Try the Casino chicken if you just can't eat the steaks or chops. Add a glass of dry, red wine for perfection. Pros: Wait staff, Food, Not rushed more

The best VALUE for your money! 2/21/2003

Butch's is consistently THE BEST steakhouse in Milwaukee! Named after the Original Old Casino Steakhouse, located on 5th street. My parents took me there as a young child in the 60's and I remember the same delicious food, cooked by Butch before he owned his own restaurant. The food is consistently good, and meals are filling, like they used to be. None of this a la carte BS where you have to pay extra for a salad and potato! Drinks are not overpriced, and they have an excellent selection of wines. A casual, friendly atmosphere accented with old antiques and experienced, professional servers. The free juke box is also a perk! more

It's The Best! 2/7/2003

I was very impressed the first time I went to Butch's and I've been back many times since! They have about the best cut of meat you can find in Milwaukee. The steer tenderloin is to die for. Service is fantastic, drinks are great, overall good value. It's a casual, comfortable atmosphere. Don't pass this one up! I recommend making a reservation on weekends. more

The Best 12/26/2002

The best place for steak in the Milwaukee area. Every time my wife & myself go out for steak and decide to try a new or different place. we always finish with the same comment. It's ok but it not as good as Butch's. more

great value, not overpriced drinks, full of atmosphere and bustling with activity. sports figures, politicians, national and local celebrities, owners of other steakhouses as well as visitors and local patrons can be seen nightly. friendly waitstaff. a must stop when in milwaukee. Pros: good food, ambience, friendly staff Cons: can be a wait, small bathrooms more

OK, so the last time I was there the interior of the place reminded me of the '70's, but the food was great! more
