Editorial review from Citysearch 6/22/2012

I do not reccomend this restaurant especially for large parties. The staff was rude, including the manager. They have NO flexibility and provided the most unwelcomed atmosphere that I have ever been to in my life! Its a shame because I have come to this restaurant on several occassions. I even had a party there!! I heard they are under new management and maybe thats the issue. I had a party of 15, they rushed us , told us that we had very limited time because they had another party coming in. This was supposed to be a Graduation celebration, we didnt even have dessert!! There end up being 3 more people that came in addition to my original reservation. The restaurant showed no flexibility . There were several empty tables (with no reservations) they told us they had NO more tables NOr chairs. That they only resereved for 15. WHAT!????? i should have walked out of that restuarant right then and there. But because of the large party and the inconvenience, i decided to stick it out, only to be further dissapointed. The did eventually bring over the extra chairs. they had a bigger section in the restaurant and refused to use that section. NOT FLEXIBLE, NOR ACCOMADATING WHATSO EVER!! We finished in timely manner and was still rushed out the door. I will NEVER EVER STEP FOOT BACK INTO THIS RESTAURANT. I AM SORRY THAT THEY EVEN GOT MY $. I WILL NOT RECCOMEND THIS RESTAURANT TO ANYONE. BEWARE ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE IN A LARGE PARTY. its a shame because the food has always been good, too bad i couldnt even enjoy it. more

Cranky and nasty 8/15/2011

A nasty waitress and her nasty father don't make mediocre food taste good. Not worth the trip unless you want some abuse. more

Glad We Tried it Again!! 6/24/2011

Had been here many, many years ago when I used to live in Bloomfield (it was under different owners then). Happened to be in the area recently and went here with friends. What a great surprise! The setting is pretty much the same (cozy, casual) but the food is now AMAZING! Had the Angry Shrimp, Empanadas and Lobster Bisque for appetizers, all 3 were excellent. Our steaks were delicious and cooked to perfection (filet mignon, rib eye, NY strip) a choice of potato or rice and a sald is included with the dinner. We also ordered additional sides (sauteed spinach, crispy onion strings, sauteed mushrooms & onions) they were great . Service was prompt and friendly. Really enjoyed having coffee and after dinner drinks on the patio -- though if the waitress would have waited a little before bringing our check (we hadn't asked for it) we definitely would have had a second round. We found the prices reasonable for the quality of the food. Loved the atmosphere, will definitely return! more

Love 3/4/2011

Every time I walk into the Bloomfield Steakhouse I am immediately welcomed by the friendly and helpful staff. They make a conscious effort to remember my name and treat me as if they are generally happy to have my business. That goes a long way with me! As for the food, I am never disappointed! Issues occur, sometimes something may not come out EXACTLY as I would like it, but again, the friendly and helpful staff are immediately right there to make it right. Whatever that might entail. I have to say it's a rare occurrence when something does go wrong as I find it to be the best, most fresh steak in the area! Looking forward to my next meal! more

Too many good places in Montclair to put up with cranky manager, basic food, dark atmosphere more

Amazing Food 8/4/2010

Bloomfield Steak house is great. We moved to Bloomfield 2 years ago and immediately found this place. We love it. The steak finger appetizer is terrific and we always get extra bread to dip in the sauce. The staff is friendly and always greets you warmly. Haven't really tried the seafood, but all the steaks are awesome, not to mention the spinach mashed potatoes!!! The burgers are one of the best I've had. As the previous post says, Frankie can be abrupt, but the service is always on point. The coconut cake and german chocolate are not to be missed! more

Mother's Day at the Bloomfield Steak & Seafood Restaurant 6/4/2010

I also had dinner on Mother's Day at the Bloomfield Steak & Seafood Restaurant. I was coming in as the verbal exchange took place. I did not witness what the customers say took place. I did witness Frankie's sister Nicole trying to appease the upset customers by offering them a gift certificate and apology. She did refer to him as a ""dick"" because obviously, she knows her brother. I'm a regular at the restaurant. I've always enjoyed my meals and service. If something was wrong I would comment...they would apologize or say thanks and that was it. Under Nick and his children's ownership I have seen an increase in business and minority customers. The ""different clientele"" Frankie referred to must have been families since the restaurant is frequented mostly by couples or adult groups. If we want change to come people have got to stop blaming every little thing on racism. Pros: Great Food and Service more

Mothers Day at the Bloomfield Steakhouse 5/13/2010

We were worried about the service being Mothers Day and the place was packed. NO PROBLEM!!! Sue was our server and she did an amazing job. The food as always was 5 star. Pros: quality food and service Cons: wish the weather allowed us to eat outside (60 degrees) more

Worst service by waiter 5/9/2010

Frank the son and part owner of the restaurant was curt, and rude we felt very rushed as we tried to enjoy our Mother's Day brunch 2010. The only upside was the busboy Chad who helped us with our every need. We only left a tip for Chad and not for Frank. The other patrons agreed with the awful service as they were leaving. When a ""regular"" asked Frank how business was he replied ""we have a different clientele today."" I am not sure what that meant but in a restaurant filed with minorities I was offended. As we were leaving we asked to speak to the owner Nicole who told us ""she knows her brother can be a d__k."" We were obviously offended by this use of language. Overall not a place you want to go unless you are a ""regular."" Pros: Food was ok, Chad was amazing Cons: The service more

What a Surprise: Great Improvement! 12/31/2008

My friends and I used to go to the Bloomfield Steak House regularly years ago. But as time passed the quality of the food and service declined and we stopped going. A few weeks ago a bunch of us got together and ended up going there for old time's sake. All I can say is we were all very pleasantly surprised! The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The menu has been improved with ample choices. For appetizers we started off with the Spanish Shrimp, Crab and Spinach Dip and Steak Crostini. The shrimp was great, just as good (if not better) as what you get at the Spanish restaurants down neck (Newark's Ironbound Section) fresh, with a perfect amount of garlic and a subtle spicy kick. The Steak Crostini had beautiful presentation and unbelievable taste, very tender grilled filet with a hint of balsamic served with bread and a fantastic horseradish sauce on the side. For main courses we had the Pan Seared Filet Mignon (excellent! topped with blue cheese crumbles) Chipotle Ribeye (awesome glaze and crispy onions) Tuna Steak (pan seared with teriyaki sauce) Prime Rib (very, very good) and Grilled Lamb Chops. We were all very pleased with our selections. All meals came with a salad with choice of dressing; the greens were crisp and fresh with nice sized croutons. Also choice of potato or rice. The garlic mashed was extremely good. The service was outstanding. Our waitress was friendly and very helpful and the service was very prompt but not rushed. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed and the restaurant's historic charm and simplicity has been preserved. Overall it was a very enjoyable meal and experience. We found the prices very reasonable for the quality, presentation and service. We have already made plans to return. Pros: Quality food, excellent service, on-site parking, outdoor seating Cons: None I can think of more

Real disappointment for the $. 12/29/2004

If this restaurant is going to charge upscale prices, they should offer upscale food, atmosphere and service. They tout being housed in a 1670 building so I expected atmosphere. Cheap tablesettings, no music with an exposed radiator made me feel as though I was in a diner. One server wore jeans and Converse hightops. Actually, waitresses double as bus boys so it was hard getting their attention. It was crowded but so is Red Lobster. The lobster bisque was like slurping a carton of heavy cream - too thick and no flavor. Clams oraganade could've come from a frozen food package! My partner enjoyed his rib-eye but mashed potatoes arrived cold. My horseradish-crusted salmon tasted delicious but arrived in a puddle of sauce which had a film on it. The accompanying scallops were not seared, just burnt brown which left an unpleasant after taste. A real disappointment for the $! Pros: Local, Good parking, Crowded Cons: , Food not the best, Lacks atmosphere more
