Romantic and Upscale 4/11/2006

I love Big Rock. The atmosphere is really tough to beat. I think it's an old train station made into a restaurant. The woodworking and other decorative details is just beautiful. The food here is out of this world. The appetizers are fantastic (from carpaccio to crab cakes) and the entrees are even better. I've had both fish and steak at Big Rock and loved both. This is an ala carte place, so expect to pay a lot and you'll pay a lot more if you want sides like asapargus or mashed potatos. They've got a great wine list and even better are the martinis - try the blue cheese stuffed olives. They just opened a lounge above the restaurant and there's a new banquet facility on the premises as well for weddings and the like. Very pricey but such a great experience. more

Owner Message
  • From the moment guests walk through the solid oak doors, the sophisticated ambiance is unmistakable. The aroma of hearty steaks fills the restaurant, while the sultry sounds of jazz enliven the crowd. It's hard to imagine that only a few decades ago Birmingham's Big Rock Chophouse was a port for travelers across the country.

Big Rock Chophouse's 4-star, award-winning menu bursts with flavorful recipes centered around enormous, hand-cut aged steaks, delicious lamb chops, and the freshest seafood! Adjoining the restaurant is a 1,950-square-foot brew house that features four signature beers along with seasonal specialty brews to compliment the restaurant's distinctive American fare. A recipient of the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for eight consecutive years, Big Rock Chophouse also features an extensive wine cellar, complete with more than 400 fine wine and Champagne selections.
