Emeryville is built on Indian Burial Grounds. They are so profoundly disrespectful of nature and native people there. Totally commercial and very controlling of behavior of potential customers. Police and harass cyclists unless that are 100% staying within the lines. Their homage to the Indian graves they desacrate is to name the street that plowed through the grounds "SHELLMOUND". So telling. Are you sure you want to shop there? Voting with my dollars for Tree huggers and Artists. more

Don't try to go to Emeryville without a car. 4/6/2010

The tiny bike rack was full, so I locked my bike to a lamppost. A security guard came up and told me I'm not allowed to do that. End of shopping experience. This is more a review of Emeryville merchants in general; they'd rather lose business from people who would arrive on bikes than lose business from people who would be offended at the sight of bikes. Pros: Unknown Cons: Insufficient bike parking, totalitarian sidewalk patrol. more

COMPLAINT 1/11/2010

I have never felt embarrassed and humilliated in my life until last saturday night when I visited Barnes and Noble in Emeryville, Ca. I just sat down at the Cafe and was immediately asked to get out of my seat unless I buy something at their Cafe. The Manager told me that to seat somewhere else. If it was just that easy to seat on the floor I would have done so. But it's hard to un-do the leg braces and squat on the floor. I felt so embarrassed by her approached, I felt like I was Rosa Parks when she was asked to leave her seat in the bus reserved for other patrons. I left the store crying. I don't think I will go to that store again. more

Nice Store! 5/24/2005

The Barnes & Noble in the Emery Bay mall is really quite nice. It's two levels, and an escalator is right in the middle of the store so you can see the rows of books and such. The magazine section downstairs is pretty massive, and you'll find people comfortably planted around the store reading them - or browsing books. The second level has more books and a cafe, and the cafe area has a nice little cozy fireplace. This is a popular spot but never feels over crowded. PROS: Big and spacious. CONS: might have to pay for parking more
