My husband and I love visiting Ikea in Emeryville, and much of our home is currently adorned with Ikea wares. The store is enormous, and carries a huge selection of kitchen wares, lighting and gardening supplies, and of course, furniture, among other items! And the prices can’t be beaten.
On the downside, it can be hard to find parking, despite the fairly recent addition of the multi-level parking garage onsite. And most of the time, the store is extremely crowded! In fact, if you stand still, you can frequently feel the floor moving under the weight of all of the shoppers. And naturally, you get what you pay for, so you can’t expect Ikea furniture to last for more than a few years of heavy, regular use (though I have a pair of Poang chairs that are still in excellent shape 5 years after I bought them).
This Black Friday, take advantage of their sale prices on several items, including Magiker Bookcase Lighting for just $12.99. But definitely get there as early as possible, since the parking lot will most likely already be a zoo by the time the doors open!

The staff has always been very helpful and nice to customers. I went there for a school project and found more than I needed in the vast selection. I even got more ideas just looking through the isles at the various products. My only complaint is that it's not well merchandised for the quality of the products. It's a bit too misc. to find exactly what you want easily.

from the outside, the flower outlet looks huge. so i was pretty surprised walking in that the place was not teaming with plants of all kinds. only about half of the store actually sells plants. and i found their prices to be around the same price as someplace like home depot or target. that being said, the staff was really helpful and gave me pointers on how to keep the plants that i got healthy.

During business hours, you will actually get a live, friendly and knowledgeable person on the phone, ready to schedule a rapid appointment with one of their journeyman plumbers, which by the way, are the nicest plumbers EVER! They specialize in residential plumbing, everything from replacing faucets and unblocking stopped sinks and drains. They also do every form of plumbing for kitchen and bath remodels. And if that wasn't enough, they are THE authority in hydronic (radiant) heating.
I trust them wholeheartedly and HIGHLY recommend them!

I had shopped at the EQ3 located in SF and just recently stopped by the Emeryville showroom. What a spot!!! The showroom is beautiful - congrats to the owners for having two incredible showrooms with totally different feels.
The staff was helpful and really knew what they were talking about. The woman who helped me (I can't recall her name off the top of my head) offered some really great design advice to a girl who was having a design crisis... I never felt like I was wasting her time and she was never pushy (unlike experiences that I had in another store.. 2 words.. initials R and B!)
I ordered a chest of drawers and was given the option to pick it up or have it delivered. Because it came assembled (!!!!) I opted to have it delivered. The chest was in stock, and they arranged delivery the next day. The crew was on time and incredibly courteous.
I will be back.. you can be sure of it!!
Pros: Great showroom, friendly staff, good quality, affordable
Cons: $1 to park for 3 hours... not really that much of a con, but...

I had some furniture from my Grandmother which needed help. Christopher Merrifield at Clever Fellows repaired it, restored it and made it beautiful again.
He also is a great looking guy!

I just purchased my first Bruno Kark vase. I have been enthralled with this potter's work for years, but had not visited his Emeryville studio until this holiday season. What's great about this work? Beautiful craftmanship, absolutely. And a sure and subtle command of form and gesture. It is obvious he is influenced by Japanese potters and designs, but his pieces have evolved beyond these into a new language. And in this wonderful way, you can feel the his commitment in the pots when you hold them. Go take a look.

This is a furniture consignment shop. It's a great resource if you're looking to buy good pieces at reasonable prices (because they're used) OR if you're looking to sell pieces that are worth too much to simply garage sale. The way it works: You bring your furniture to them, you price it (they can assist) and then it stays on their showroom floor until it sells. You receive a percentage (50%?) of the selling price. Some pieces go really fast. If it hangs around more than a month, the price gets discounted. All pieces are in very good condition. Styles range from antiques to contemporary and include living room, dining, bedroom, office, outdoor, rugs, artwork, and more. It's a great store to browse for an item, if you don't know exactly what style you want but want to gather ideas.

I like the Harvest Home Store because their style of furniture and accessories is a kind of casual modern design. So if you like clean lines, but a cozy feel for home decorating it may be worth checking out. My main complaint with this store though, is that because it's on the small side, they try to cram in as much furniture on the showroom floor as they can, so it feels crowded.
