I had heard a lot about this place (the good and the bad) and decided to check the place out. Here is my breakdown: ==1==. Who - My g/f and I. We got in in about 5 minutes on a Saturday (around 11PM). ==2==. Decor - The inside of the club was fairly decent looking. Nothing too fancy but it was better than most Houston clubs. ==3==. Crowd - a mix of new money, pretending to have money, girls looking for guys with money, 3 people whose parents are narcotics dealers (not the street-level-dealer but sitting-on-a-yacht-dealer), maybe 5 black guys, 2 black girls, no asians, some Hispanics of European descent (basically looked white - similar to my g/f), some middle eastern people (yes they too could pass for white people), the token steroid pumpers and there were some nice normal people too. ==4==. Bartenders - Very nice and friendly. ==5==. Owner / manager - some guy named "Darren" (not certain of this). Very polite. ==6==. Doorman - nice guy on this night (nice to everyone). Different doorman on my repeat visit was not so nice to anyone. ==7==. Some girl with a clip board - (not too bright). ==8==. Overall - this is an average place. If you are trying to be somebody but will not quite get there, this is the place for you. If you are somebody, just check it out once, you will not return. If you do not go...no big deal, you will not be missing much. ==9==. To those who compare Drake to high end LA/Vegas/NYC/Miami clubs - please don't do this. This place is not close. Not with it's decor nor with it's "selectiveness". Upper end clubs do not use race as a detemining factor for their clientele. The end goal is to make the most money by running an awesome/classy establishment. Unfortunately my Houston is becoming like Dallas (full of wannabes) and they will probably keep the Drake running for some time. ==10==. Does the club discriminate based on races? Yes (especially against asians and blacks). They allow just enough "colored" people (like me) in to try and avoid the label. Pros: Good for a single guy looking for some company for the night (girls here chase money) Cons: Overhyped, full of wannabes. No mensa members here.
