I never thought I'd be typing these words in the same sentence as "hotel in New York City". This is a 'residence' hotel...where the rooms are basically one foot bigger than a double bed and you share bathroom facilities with your neighbors. There is no elevator in this building, so bring your hiking shoes. The hallways are very narrow, as in I don't know what would have happened if someone had been coming the other way. However it was quiet, each room as it's own window AC unit and a TV hangs from the wall. The bathrooms were clean, but it's a good idea to plan an early shower or late at night to beat the rush. This particular hotel is a block from a subway that will take you directly to midtown Manhattan and the theater district. Your best deal is Sunday night - 60 bucks for the room! Basically if you come to NYC for the ambiance, this is not the place to stay. It's a place to sleep and that's about it. But odds are you're not spending that much time in your room anyway, and this Upper West Side neighborhood is very safe with loads of shopping and restaurants in the neighborhood. This is a good choice for travelers on a budget who don't mind navigating the subway system to get around.
