Review content:
Three months ago I went to The Mix for my first time and I absolutely loved it. It immediately made my top 5 bars in San Antonio. I thought this place has it all: good crowd, good music, good service. The place was packed, but the bartenders were attentive and they'd find me in the crowd to keep me happy. I've done nothing but sing The Mix's praises ever since. I loved it for all the reasons mentioned in the positive reviews you'll find online. However, I visited The Mix two weekends ago and experienced blatant discrimination. I have never been asked to leave a bar. I've never made a scene and I always take care of the barstaff. This Saturday was no different. I was tipping well and enjoying myself with some friends. After an hour and a half of chilling and watching the Yankees game in the back room we were told to leave. No explanation was offered until we confirmed with the bouncer that we didn't fit the mold. Now we weren't dressed up. We were wearing jeans and t shirts. Very casual as is the MO there. We weren't drunk. We had just started drinking so that wasn't the issue either. Never have I felt such disgust for a local business that gives off the false perception of being an accepting and "eclectic" crowd. "Eclectic" in that you better look like every other person in there or they will throw you out. It was the most offensive and ridiculous experience I've ever had in a bar in my 8 years of bar going. As a self-proclaimed beacon of counterculture The Mix put on full display just how much they don't understand the very ethos they promote. Pros: Good Potential Cons: Staff
