When I was picking a pediatrician with my first baby, I did what any parent does. I read up on all the questions you're supposed to ask, I looked at all the qualifications of each doctor in my area, I checked who was affiliated with my preferred hospital, I found out who my insurance covered..... then I picked one based on her name. LOL! Well, it helped that she's also *highly* qualified and has a really good office/bedside manner, too.
We use Dr. Hodge with the Cook Children's Center, which is in the white building on Round Grove Road, just beyond Target. She admits to both Lewisville and Presby Plano, which is where I had both my babies, and it was very nice to have our actual pediatrician see the babies before they left the hospital.
Dr. Hodge has a very calm manner, which is good for sick kids and worried parents, especially a first timer. She also offers very practical advice, and doesn't over-prescribe medicine, although she certainly doesn't hesitate to prescribe when it's needed.
In practice with Dr. Hodge are Drs. Bain, Peak, and Loftiss. We've seen Drs. Bain and Peak and I'd recommend them as well. Dr. Peak is a little younger and more high-energy. I find it interesting that it's an all-women practice, which brings a different vibe to the whole experience.
The nursing staff is generally very pleasant to work with as well, and Dr. Hodge makes them give the shots, so your kids won't be afraid of the doctor. Front desk operations are manned by Kristi, who is simply fabulous (although I've heard recently that she's going part time and probably eventually leaving for good.) Payment desk is staffed by Shawn, who's great as well.
