Steer clear of this treatment center if possible. The 12 steps are not even mentioned in the program. 90% of the people there were ordered by probation. The people that wanted to still get high, got high and slipped by the eyes of the staff. In my small group, an individual who had been trying very hard but was struggling admitted to relapsing the day before; he was immediately told to call his probation officer or the counselor was going to. I saw 2 other very similar situations happen during my stay there. After this, a guy came up to me and told me he relapsed but didn't want to share and talk about it in group because he was on his last straw with probation. I talked to him about his relapse and he seemed a little better after that but it really made me think about the structure of the program at Park Ave. Center. Honesty is the principle behind the first step; it's pretty hard to be honest when your looking at years in prison for telling the truth.
I have been in 4 different treatment centers and have finally attained long-term sobriety(following park ave.) but that is thanks to the program of AA, not park ave by any means. If your looking for a treatment center, check out New Beginnings in Waverly; they take private and government insurance, or go to Hazelden in center city if you have decent private insurance. Both of these center provide a healthy environment for recovery as well as teach the 12 steps.
I hope you got something from reading this, but please, stay away from park avenue center. It is not conducive for sobriety.
