On 1/9/2014, my car (not driven by me) got into an accident. I was not there when the accident took place. The police on the scene allowed Roadway Towing Inc to cart off my car to their storage lot. I went to the lot after 5 pm on 1/10/2014 (Friday night) to pay and collect my car, however because it was after 5pm, I was told that I would have to return on Monday (1/13/2014) to do the transaction. Knowing that some tow companies are rip off artistes, I asked the owner to write down all the charges and the total amount of money I will need to bring to get back my vehicle when I return on Monday. He told me- $125 for towing and $25/day for storage. He came up with a total of $225 to have the car taken out of the lot and an extra $100 to take it to the repair shop about 3 miles away, if I chose to. When I returned on Monday, I decided that I only wanted the car taken out of the lot and place on the roadside for a total of $225, as we had agreed. With that, he seemed disappointed and came up with a new fee (yard fee), which now brought the total to $315, to get the car on the roadside. I protested and brought the original invoice showing $225. He snatched this away from me and tore it up. All the while, I am looking at the DARP fees on his wall showing $125 for towing, $25/day storage for first 3 day and $27/day, there afterwards. I asked him about the DARP fees and he snapped and said that he is not DARP and if I left and came back, he would charge me the actual fees which include the yard fee and $35/day storage fee. Anyway, I left his shop and called 311 and opened a case against him with NY Dept. of Consumer Affairs (DCA). The next day, a friend of mine returned to collect my car and was given a new fee schedule. This was $125 for towing and 6 days storage at $25/day, for a total of $275. I am not sure whether DCA had gotten to him causing him to use the correct fees. I am still mad that I had to pay an extra day storage fee due to no fault of mines. I still decided to place this review to warn anyone else who may think about using their service to avoid them. Wtf is yard fee. Not recommended!!!
