Review content:
I've been here 2x. When I heard there was a good congee place in Flushing, I was pretty excited. Flushing pretty much has every type of Chinese food except for really good congee like Big Wong in Chinatown. So the first time I went, I ordered the mince meat congee, seafood pan fried noodles, roast pork & chicken over rice. The congee was luke warm. It's very bad sign because congee is something that is suppose to be piping hot. A big pot of rice gruel is simmered all day, and it's made to order depending on what type you order. The seafood pan fried noodle was a bit on the salty side, and oily - but this is usually a problem for most Chinese food. Overall, it was eatable and cheap. The second time I went, I only ordered the mince meat, squid, salted pork and peanut congee. It was just plain awful. OMG. They didn't bother to salt the pork - it was just a bunch of flavorless diced pork cubes. The congee had absolutely no flavor at all. I had to ask for salt and pepper. Worst is that there was a fishy smell to the squid. Not enough to kill you, but not exactly fresh. I was so disappointed, I never finished the bowl and left some behind. Anyone who knows me knows that I rarely leave uneaten food behind. So, it was really bad. Flushing has so much competition that if this place does not improve, and soon, it will not last long. When I walked out, I noticed that the congee chef was like a teenage girl who was suppose to be serving the 4 dish 1 soup take out. She obviously didn't know what she was doing and the restaurant simply does not care. Not to be a sexist, but the best Chinese chefs are mostly old men in their 50s with big pot bellies, chain smokers and got a bad gambling habit. You have to be a bit crazy and desperate to stand on your feet all day at an underpaid job supervising a big pot of rice gruel.\r \r Pros: cheap Cons: Dirty. I saw roaches crawling on bathroom wall
