The Long Island Veterinary Specialists (LIVS) are a very special and caring group of veterinarians. Our research lab, the Computer Vision and Image Processing Laboratory at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, has been actively engaged in research with LIVS for a number of years. We have been continually impressed with their ability to consistently sustain cutting edge research while maintaining one of the best veterinary clinics in the nation. We have seen that they provide the most compassionate and excellent care available. It has often been a source of amusement that during some of our critical and important research meetings we are often interrupted by Dr. Marino’s need to serve a patient – it is clear that the priority here is to take the best care of the animals as is humanly possible. Even though Dr. Marino and LIVS are very involved with state-of-the-art research the priority for the care of the patients is evident. \r \r During the course of our research over the past 30 years we have been involved with a number of medical facilities and I have never seen one that does such an excellent job of serving all their clientele so effectively. I believe it is primarily due to the dedication of Dr. Marino and his staff, their genuine concern for the animals, as well as their human families, is second to none. Additionally, with access to and direct involvement in current research, the facility is in a unique position to provide their patients with diagnostics and treatments not available anywhere else in the world. Additionally, the concern to keep costs down is paramount as evidenced by our research to facilitate bringing more cost effective diagnostics into the clinic. Specifically, the research and development of thermographic image analysis will lead to much more cost effective diagnostic imaging methods than are currently available. If you care about your pets, LIVS is certainly the best choice for veterinary care.\r \r
