I have a family member that resides in Russell County that is a little larger than most folks. There is not ONE hospital that can accommodate any of her needs. They have NO LIFT large enough to lift her and they have NO bed large enough to hold her..She is 22 yrs old and has lived in the same area all her life. She has numerous medical problems as she has spina bifida and is confined to a wheel chair. She can not even get into some medical buildings doors as they are too small. Does anyone have any suggestions at all?? I feel she deserves the same medical care and options as the next guy. If it seems I am writing this with a bit of an attitude, I am. On more than one occasion she should have been kept over night for observation but they sent her home instead because they could not accommodate her. My fear is that someday she may need some real medical attention and not one facility will be able to treat her effectively.
