I was a student at San Francisco State for two years. After shopping around and comparing different gyms, I chose Fitness USA because of 1. the reduced price that they offered me as a student and 2. when I asked about the process to quit because I moved around a lot and was a student, they told me that I could quit at anytime as long as I gave them the proper notice. I did as I was told in the months before my graduation, I gave them plenty of notice to let them know that I was going to be moving to LA (a location where there was no Fitness USA) and I filled in all of the necessary paperwork. Weeks before I was scheduled to graduate, they sent me a letter telling me that my reason to quit because I was moving was not a valid reason. I thought that this was ridiculous but even so, I sent them a copy of my valid CA I.D. and a letter along with a form that the gym had given me to fill out voicing my complaint. It has now been 4 months and I am now recieving calls from this company with them wanting to know why I stopped automatic payment on my debit card to Fitness USA. All that I ever wanted to do was quit the gym and after all that I have done (phone calls and 3 letters) this situation has still not been corrected. Contracts are strong and the fine print should always be read, but if you want to quit a gym that you were shelling out money every month to belong to and you were told when you were signed up that you could, then shouldn't you be allowed to? Pros: they offer great deals and are eager for you to join Cons: they don't follow through with what they offer in the end
