Review content:
Last Saturday, Grassiron training sponsored a non-sanctioned Olympic lifting competition at the Hyde Park Gym. The event took place in the parking lot. HPG regulars showed up to volunteer, compete, and cheer on their friends. Athletes from other facilities showed up to challenge HPG's best. Local businesses (including Amy's Ice Cream) donated prizes, and New World Deli provided food for all attendees. Some very impressive athletes lifted some huge weights while the rest of us mere mortals watched and yelled in approval. Meanwhile, inside the gym, regular folks of all ages were working out in a well-equipped, air-conditioned facility. At the same time, in the ""ab-room,"" a host of bodybuilding and physique competitors with the bodies of Superman and Wonder Woman were practicing their poses in anticipation of the contest season and all the magazine photo opportunities that come with it. So there it is. A busy day at my favorite gym in the world. A great community of friends and athletes. People of all ability levels trying to improve themselves with the help of some cold iron. As long as I live in Austin, I will never work out in another gym. This is my home. I love it from the one of a kind, custom cable machines to the well used rubber bumper plates. From the dozens of photos of the champions HPG has produced over the years to the trophies on the shelf. I love the power lifters, the olympic lifters, the body builders, the pro boxers, the martial artists, the bikini girls, the old folks, and the tri-athletes who all train here and make the HPG community so awesome. Pros: olympic weightlifting, powerlifting, crossfit, HIIT Cons: Not for sissies
