Review content:
My husband and I had only been to the Castaways for wedding receptions. They were running a ""Buy One, Get One"" on Tuesday night which excluded any lobster dishes, all you can eat crab legs and frog legs. My husband ordered a stuffed chicken dish and I ordered the nightly special of a sizzling steak platter (Delmonico). I told the waitress I wanted the steak rare, that I used to order medium rare but they always come too well done. The soup and salad bar was included with our meals. The salad was nothing to brag about, but the homemade chicken soup was good ... a lot of broth and carrots, some potatoes, some celery and some chicken. (My husband spotted the chicken bone before he put it in his mouth.) When our meals came, my husband was very disappointed with the canned green beans floating in some sort of sauce. His chicken was very well done but he said it was good. My steak was a very large cut but was cooked medium well at best. Since it was not a particularly thin cut of meat, it should have been able to be cooked properly. I am very fearful of sending things back in a restaurant, so when the waitress asked if there was something wrong with my steak I told her the chef (and I use the term loosely) obviously didn't understand what rare meant and I would just take it home to the dog. She was apologetic but made no offer of trying to make things better. I was offered a refill of my iced tea when it was about 3/4 empty, but my husband was never offered when his glass sat empty. We arrived just before 5:30 and were the first couple in. (That should have been a good indication on a 2-for-1 night a half hour after opening.) Maybe 10-12 more people arrived while we were there. Would I recommend this place? Never. Even at roughly half price, it was a waste of money both for the food and the gas to get there. For a local restaurant, you're better off going to DG's. Or if you really want a good steak cooked properly, drive the extra few miles and go to the Outback. Pros: No wait for seating Cons: Too many to mention
