March 29, 2009 - This was our first time dining at this restaurant -- we had family (grandparents and parents) from out of town and wanted to show them some nice eateries in Austin. Given that it was Sunday brunch, we suspected it might be crowded and had called ahead for reservations for a party of 9 @ 12:30pm and were told we'll be the first in line when we arrive. We arrived at 12:20p and waited and waited... by 1pm, 3 of us had to leave (due to prior engagements) so now we are down to a party of 6. We did not get seated till 1:15pm -- almost a FULL HOUR after we arrived. Lots of people came and went and they couldn't just put together some tables?? At that point we should've just left ...no one even came over to offer a glass of water to us esp. the senior folks. There were unsightly plates of leftover breads left in the sitting area by other guests (at least they got some). \r \r When we finally got seated, we were placed in a small BOOTH -- good thing none of us were overweight, or that would have been a problem. However, there were only 4 place settings. I requested for the additional settings from 2 different staff members and our waitress Brina remarked distastefully, ""Oh, you mean you didn't want to eat with your hands today?"" I also had to inquire about their fresh baked breads - which Mimi's is supposedly known for - and was told they are free but only if you REQUEST them. What gives??? We did not order appetizers for fear that it will take too long for our food to arrive. We were beyond starving at this point. \r \r The only thing positive I can say is that the food quality and presentation was actually quite decent (or was this because we were starving??) Our overall experience here was beyond subpar. Needless to say, the out-of-towners were NOT impressed and we will not be dining here again. Pros: Food's not bad; breads are served hot Cons: You need to REQUEST for the free breads??! SLOW service
