I always pay rent on time and take necessary precautions to make sure that I pay the correct amount of rent on time. For Septembers rent on my lease, I am allowed $150.00 off of my rent. I had accidentally paid my rent in full amount for Septembers rent ($375), and had also accidentally paid over the amount of Augusts rent (I paid $379 when I only owed $375) So, I wasn't sure how much money had been credited to my account for rent. ( I wasn't sure how much I actually owed for Octobers rent) So I went in about 2 weeks in advance to ask how much rent I owed for Octobers rent. She said that the only amount of money that I owed was $4. I asked again: ""Are you sure that's it?"" She reassured me twice that that amount was correct. I said Ok, and I went to get a money order for Octobers rent of only $4. I came in later on the 22nd of September to pay Octobers rent. For one, the woman came off as kind of rude and trivial when it came to the task of helping me. When I was paying for Octobers rent, as she was writing my receipt, she wrote that it was for late fees, and I had to tell her again that it was for Octobers rent. So, on the receipt, it clearly states that it is for Octobers rent and not for late fees. On October 12th of 2010, I receive a letter on my door that states late fees for Octobers rent along with the $375. When I confronted the current manager, Sean Cumpian, of this issue, he simply stated that he was sorry about the confusion, but that I would still owe $375 minus $150 off because of Septembers rent. I didn't feel like he cared at all about my predicament, and now he's expecting me to pay Octobers rent now for the 12th and the $375 for rent that is coming up. He said that it was my responsibility to keep up with how much I owed for rent, and again I stated that I was trying to do so by asking the people that work there how much I owed. He said that instead of asking them, next time I should ask him because he would be more knowledgeable on the subject of how much I owed for rent. So, apologies apologies and no offer to do anything about their own mistakes. On top of my own personal issues, they do not manage the pool very well a lot of times. The pool was actually green on one occasion, about 2 months ago. Their maintenance knocks once, and then proceeds to barge in without giving you enough time to answer the door. All in all, these people are an incompetent group and I'm not all too sure how they were hired on, but I suggest that almost any other place would be better than University Commons.
