Dear Senator Ensign, \r I am requesting your help re: income based housing assistance in LV. I lost my job (company closure) due to the Housing Crisis. We made a hard, yet responsible, decision to down size our living to make ends meet and protect our credit and future of our family. We found an income based complex in our area , Sunset Canyon Apts 9700 W Sunset Rd, LV, NV 382-7368, that would allow our eldest son to remain at his current school. When we applied on 1/22/07 the rep for the complex told us that it was based on income, previous housing history, credit and criminal. We provided my husband?s last 3 pay stubs and my unemployment award letter. The rep reviewed our income docs and advised us that we qualified income wise. Happily, we proceeded to the next step of getting 2 money orders; $300 for a holding deposit and $70. We received a call from them telling us that we were credit approved and all we could think is THANK GOD, our family just might make it through this struggling economy. Then we recv'd a call telling us that we were declined due to income. We were snowballed with what had happened since we were initially advised that we met ALL requirements. We were then told per Sec 42 housing requirements, my unemployment benefit needed to be annualized, which put us over the max annual income limit. They refunded our $300 deposit but kept the $70. \r I called the Tax Credit Dep in LV and spoke to Mark who confirmed the Sec 42 housing requirement. He also stated that they know this?.no they don?t! . With the decline in income, cost of COBRA, gas and food costs, we cannot afford to give $70 away on top of being put through anymore emotional rollercoasters. \r I don?t know who to turn to for help other than my Senator. I feel that citizens should be protected from this type of situation. Any help you can provide would be GREATLY appreciated from my family and others who will be protected from this in the future. \r
