Review content:
NOTE: this review is based on one visit where one Red Velvet cupcake was purchased and consumed.\r
All, taste is subjective so as with all reviews, take this and any review with a grain of salt. After six months in NY and frequeting Crumbs I felt it was time to few of the competitors. The UWS location of Buttercup is closer to me though I had hoped to make my way to the original east side location. Found the UWS location to be clean and unbusy midweek in the late afternoon (4:30PM) Tons of cupcakes in the case and several dozen of freshly frosted cupcakes were upfront waiting to either be packaged for a special order or to be put in the case.\r
The Red Velvet cupcake was disappointing not because it was dry but it just really didn't have the cocoa/chocolate taste I desire. Tasted more like a regular cupcake tinted red. Overall though a perfectly decent cupcake with good frosting to cake ratio and a not cloyingly sweet frosting. Nothing to write home about but will adequately cure a sugar fix. Not sure if it is true that Crumbs uses a mix but based on my tastebuds I can say that Buttercups cupcakes are denser in texture.
Cons: Can't really say...
