Review content:
First time I have been motivated enough to review a restaurant - I really don't get these reviews. I live in the neighborhood and my wife and I stopped by here for the first time tonight, expecting greatness, based on reviews, both from the internet and our friends.
Steak - completely - unimpressive. I ordered the 18 oz sirloin, medium-rare. It came medium, which is an error, but not fatal. The main problem was the meat - it was shrink-wrap/supermarket quality, and I swear it had not been aged, at all. Simply not a good cut of meat.
You can get a MUCH better steak, across the street at Chelsea Market. There is no excuse for a steak at this price (which although not exorbitant, is up there) not being noticeably better than what you can get at your local butcher.
The seasoning was average, not spectacular, certainly not enough to overcome the cooking error and the toughness of the meat.
The macaroni and cheese side was good, but if truffles played any part in this ""truffle mac 'n cheese,"" I couldn't find it.
I can only conclude that this restaurant is reviewed well because: (i) the quality has for some reason gone down; OR (ii) people are deluded by the reputation and are over-hyping the food.
I cannot recommend this restaurant. You would be better off going to your local butcher and getting a high-quality, aged steak. Season it with salt and pepper, take care not to completely kill it, and you will get a better result than what I was served at this restaurant.
