just like anywhere when you purchase a pet you have to be ready for the worst and hopeful for the best. I think that most people need to be realistic when they go to the anti cruelty for an animal. these are animals that were homeless,or couldn't be kept for some reason or another. but ultimately their survival depends on you. they are just waiting for someone to love and care for them and in return you just might be lucky enough to get many years of love in return. 14 yrs ago my dog ginger ran away, we looked every were...put up flyers went to animal shelters put up adds in local papers but to no avail. finally 3mons past and one day we went to the anti cruelty to look one more time. we didn't find ginger but out of know where we found the most adorable, loving brown eyed beauty we had ever know. we call her pebbles( thanks to the grandkids) but she's been a family member for 14yrs she is a shepherd mix about 50lbs & she still swears she's a lap dog. we were so blessed to find her & have the chance to love her. I can only hope you are so lucky.
Pros: you just might find your best friend
Cons: you take your chances
