I generally love Alta and have had many good experiences there, but my last experience was quite bad. My wife and I didn't have reservations so we ate at the bar which we've done many times in the past. While eating our food, which was very good, and working our way through the red wine list my wife ordered the next wine which was a Labrusca. It was served chilled and was sparkling. I called over the bartender and said that this was not what we were expecting since red wines are generally not served chilled and it wasn't on the list of ""sparkling"" wines. He said that's how Labruscas are served with a tone that implied that we were idiots. He impatiently asked me what I wanted him to do and when I told him I'd like to send it back and get a different wine he scoffed at the phrase ""send it back"" and pointed out that he would have to throw it out. He eventually did give us the next wine on the list but with considerable attitude. He then went over to another bartender and audibly made fun of us. Then later to the 3rd bartender, again, loud enough for us to hear him. I was especially bothered because 20 minutes earlier we had heard him warn a woman off a white wine because he said it was heavily oxidized and she may not like it. He gave her a taste and she didn't and chose a different wine. So he clearly knows a bartender should say something if the wine is outside the norm, but chose not to do it for us.
