A few years back, an old back injury flared up again. In the past, I would see an orthopedic doctor who would write a prescription for muscle relaxers. After a 3 days in bed, and these muscle relaxers, my back would recover. Well, this time it didn't. My back kept spasming and causing quite a bit of pain. I tried seeing a great massage therapist but she couldn't do much because I was in so much pain. I was hesitant to visit a chiropractor. My reluctance stemmed from my medical equipment background of working with orthopedic doctors. Ortho docs have a definite bias against chiropractic medicine. Some of this bias is warranted in my opinion. Some chiropractic doctors push the envelope too much on what conditions chiropractic treatment can help. Yet I also knew ortho docs didn't know all the answers either. You see, during my medical equipment days I saw many back fusion surgeries. I also saw many patients end up in worse pain after the surgery. In many cases, the surgery severely impacted the patients quality of life. Based on what I saw, and also reading about the low success rates of lower back fusions, I swore to myself I would never have back fusion surgery. Knowing that western medicine doctors would only offer me muscle relaxers, or eventually, back surgery, I finally relented to seeing a chiropractor and started asking friends and neighbors for a recommendation. Zeke's name came up twice, and while he was a long drive for me, I went. My wife brought me (I couldn't drive), and within one session I had demonstrable improvement. Within 3 sessions, most of my pain was gone (80% if I had to pick a number), and with six sessions, it was gone. With Zeke bringing down the pain, and tenderness, I was able to go back to my massage therapist. Her massage work was a good compliment to Zeke's chiropractic care. I still see Zeke sporadically throughout the year. One thing you'll find with Zeke is he doesn't push a certain treatment regimen of X number of visits. Never have I gotten the feeling that Zeke puts money over patient care. Having interacted with many types of doctors throughout the last 20 years, I can say he has a rare combination of terrific bedside manner and healing expertise. If you are looking for a chiropractic doctor, Zeke is well worth trying out (and keeping!).
