Review content:
A friend of mine decided to do a web search for an upscale Mexican restaurant and came up with Mexico DF. Pleasant surprise and incredible treat. We arrived a bit early to a trendy bar filled with people beginning the long weekend w/laughter. As we approached two smiling hostesses, we were told by one of them that being early would mean that we would be charged extra and she was going to pocket it! So she was thankful. This playful beginning allowed us to feel very comfortable and relaxed ? even though we were in this ?upscale? restaurant. Tables slowly filled up around us, yet our informative and personable waiter Tomas, made time to explain the dishes and make some wise suggestions. Some seemed unique with a tint of originality (mouth watering Duck flautas, ?lipstick? and jalape?o chiles fried panela cheese, and Cucumber, mango, and radish salad w/chile which had a great flavor that complemented spicier dishes). I am a picky eater; I hate beans. I questioned our waiter about substituting the beans for rice on the Sonoma chicken breast. He informed me that the beans were tossed in the mix of the sauce but would be happy to pick them out for me. Was he joking? I realized that he was serious and was willing to serve me a dish I could be happy with so I could have a ?great dining experience?. The richness of flavors made the dishes extremely filling. We requested to speak to Chef David. After at least 5 min. of pleasant conversation during a time when business had gotten extremely busy, we were very happy with this special find. The Flan was just right ? creamy yet solid ? and the Goat cheese cheesecake w/mission figs and grapes was flakey and perfect! Reasonable as any other high quality restaurant in the area would be ? drinks, starters, main dishes, desserts (complements of Chef David!) and coffee. I highly recommend Mexico SF in hopes that it will become at the very least a monthly visit for me and my friend and a SF established favorite.
