Mom's Diner on Frank St. and Mom's Other Diner on Highway-69 North are my pick for the best burger in Lufkin. Many will say that designation belongs to Ray's Drive-In but the Mom's Monster 2 gets my vote. Mom's has your typical burger joint menu with generous portions, free drink refills and wonderful made to order flat grilled hamburgers. The Mom's Monster 2 is a large double meat double cheese burger normally a mayo burger but mustard can be added or substituted by request. The two distinguishing factors that make this burger so great are the seasoning in the meat and the carmelized onions. Even if you aren't normally an onion person these sweet cooked onions add a sweet sublte complexity to an otherwise perfectly seasoned and wonderfully juicy burger. I try to eat my Monster's in the restaurant if possible becasue they are so juicy that too much time in a burger box makes them too soggy to successfully eat. If you are going to take one home make this your last stop before going home to eat. Mom's burgers are best accompanied by spicy curley fries and a softdrink or tea. The only detractor is that Mom's is a designated smoking establishment. Usually this doesn't cause much discomfort but on rare occasions it has impacted my dining experience.
