A blind date took me to fresh last Friday night- what a great surprise! I had never heard of the restaurant before- but now I am a total fan (I am celebrating a girlfriend's birthday there this coming Saturday). To begin with- the restaurant is lovely- it is very romantic, and has a sea-like feel to it. My date was able to score probably the best seat in the house- a round-shaped banquette for two that is right in the center of the action- score 1 for him. We were seated right away by one of the friendliest hostesses I have ever seen in New York (she came over to our table to check in on us during dinner, too). We started out with their signature cocktails- they are pricey but ridiculously delicious- the waitress said that they don't use any canned juices for them- everything is freshly muddled when the drink is made- that level of freshness set the standard for the evening. Appetizers were great- we shared the delectable crabcakes and oysters (of which I am usually not a fan, but these were really really tasty). My entree was incredible- pumpkin seed crusted lemon sole- out of this world!!! It was soooooo good- plus the presentation was beautiful. My date went with the tried and true fish and chips- I had a bite- and it was also great. For dessert, we shared the decadent chocolate variations which was mmmmmmmm so yummy. In all- the food was outstanding! The service was what really shined- never an empty glass, our bread plate was always full and were never felt like the server was being intrusive. She was such a great waitress- knowledgeable about the food, about the wine, and very pleasant. She even gave us free champagne- I loooved that. I also heard that they called the next day and thanked us for coming in- I heard that from my date, and yes, we are going out again. Pros: Food, Service, Ambience Cons: not a one
