Wanting to try the 'new' Sheepherders Inn, my wife and I had dinner there last night. The front desk folks, while young, were very friendly and polite. The menu was varied enough for us and the service was good. However, the 'fresh' bread they brought apparently had been from yesterday as it was so dry my wife would not eat it. And she LOVES bread. I had the smoky bacon clam chowder, Caesar salad, and 8 oz Filet Mignon. The clam chowder was very good, but the filet was covered with some sort of reduction sauce that I found not very appealing. My wife had the Asian chicken salad, and crab cake sliders. She thought the salad was excellent, but the crab cake aoili made the little 'hamburger bun' they were served in quite soggy. Anyway, we finished the meal and and went home. This morning I awoke to the most awful gastrointestinal distress I have had in quite a LONG time. My diet before the Sheepherder meal was very bland through the day, so I know that something in the food at the Sheepherders Inn was responsible. If I had to guess, I would lean toward the reduction sauce on the filet mignon. In any event, we will NOT be eating there anytime soon. I plan to contact the manager and advise him/her of the problem, as well as the county of Sacramento.
