I've been in the extremely painful and difficult situation of having to place someone you love in a place where you desperately hope they'll be given proper care. I'm not taking this lightly. I know the social workers do what they can but leave you pretty much in the dark by telling you to visit a place so you can figure out if its right. You're supposed to know if its good by the way it smells. Well, that measure doesn't cut it here. It smells clean but that's where the caring ends. My family member was left unattended on a dirty bed pan for five (yes 5) HOURS! On another occasion, if family had not been there he/she was about to be given meds that belonged to another patient. I was toldmatter of factly that mistakes happen because they're only human... When a very serious medical event came up on a Sunday I was told nobody would be around to figure it out until Monday because no one there could figure it out. They have an autocratic doctor who did her job in a brief perfunctory manner missing important things on a medical chart and reluctant to listen to family about important medical info. I saw a patient who fell off his bed wait 15 minutes to be picked up. Another lady who has screaming for help for 30 minutes begging for someone to help her to bed while the attendandts told her to wait becasue they were busy gossiping. The staff is mostly cold and uncaring. Their method of rehabilitation is giving patients sleeping pills and slapping on a diaper. That's not rehabilitation it is a path to deterioration. Please do your homework. Review the survey reports, do the best you can to show up often, ask questions, ask the name of the people you're talking to and of the attendants taking care of your loved ones. Keep a notebook. Make sure they know you're on top of it. SPEAK UP! I'm sorry you're in a position to have to read this. I do know how it feels but the fact that you are researching it shows you're doing the best you can. Good luck. Pros: I suppose there may be places that are worse Cons: Inferior care, uncaring staff, medical mistakes...
