Nice Place So Far :) 10/25/2011

Just left my family member at the Sunrise center. The staff was warm and welcoming. This is the first time I've done this so it was difficult, but the people were very nice. They helped with the unpacking and getting everything organized for the stay. I left feeling like everything was going to be okay. I will follow up after they've been there a few days. But so far so good! more

Decades of Quality Care! 10/8/2008

BEST TO AVOID 5/27/2008

I work in a hospital and heard good things years ago about the rehab at Sunrise. My sisters liked it and sight unseen I took her there. I immediately knew it was a mistake. Mostly good staff - what there is of them. My mom has dementia and is a diabetic but alert and overall healthy and came with a fractured leg. They put her in a section that is shabby, there is a hole in the wall of her room, and the patient's are just existing. The dietitian had to be sternly spoken to to get the diet correct which caused my mom to be overmedicated with insulin. They forgot to give her breakfast before leaving for a doctors visit causing aggitation. Her air mattress lost its air and she was laying on steel - I found her that way. Food is low quality, no one cleans the rooms and basic nursing knowledge is not used here. Too many mistakes and not enough quick action on requests/ problems. No warmth or caring - aloof staff. Run away from this one. Pros: good size rooms, some caring staff Cons: bad food, shabby appearance, little outside lighting at night, short staffed, no warmth. more

Best Nursing Home In Broward County 9/24/2007

This letter has the intention to express our sincere THANK YOU, to the staff that took care of my husband,O.C. the nurses and aids did a wonderful job during his stay at Sunrise Health and Rehabilitation Center. When we arrived we were completely lost and not sure if we had made the right decision. The staff had words of comfort and supported us through out his stay at the facility. My husband died after 4 years of being in Sunrise Health Center, your facility will always have our gratitude and admiration on the way that residents are cared for. Pros: Great Staff more

last resort if you have nowhere else to place your loved ones...deterioration not rehabilitation 7/24/2007

I've been in the extremely painful and difficult situation of having to place someone you love in a place where you desperately hope they'll be given proper care. I'm not taking this lightly. I know the social workers do what they can but leave you pretty much in the dark by telling you to visit a place so you can figure out if its right. You're supposed to know if its good by the way it smells. Well, that measure doesn't cut it here. It smells clean but that's where the caring ends. My family member was left unattended on a dirty bed pan for five (yes 5) HOURS! On another occasion, if family had not been there he/she was about to be given meds that belonged to another patient. I was toldmatter of factly that mistakes happen because they're only human... When a very serious medical event came up on a Sunday I was told nobody would be around to figure it out until Monday because no one there could figure it out. They have an autocratic doctor who did her job in a brief perfunctory manner missing important things on a medical chart and reluctant to listen to family about important medical info. I saw a patient who fell off his bed wait 15 minutes to be picked up. Another lady who has screaming for help for 30 minutes begging for someone to help her to bed while the attendandts told her to wait becasue they were busy gossiping. The staff is mostly cold and uncaring. Their method of rehabilitation is giving patients sleeping pills and slapping on a diaper. That's not rehabilitation it is a path to deterioration. Please do your homework. Review the survey reports, do the best you can to show up often, ask questions, ask the name of the people you're talking to and of the attendants taking care of your loved ones. Keep a notebook. Make sure they know you're on top of it. SPEAK UP! I'm sorry you're in a position to have to read this. I do know how it feels but the fact that you are researching it shows you're doing the best you can. Good luck. Pros: I suppose there may be places that are worse Cons: Inferior care, uncaring staff, medical mistakes... more
