A few years ago I got a tattoo at Magnum Tattoo and it was a piss poor tattoo. I have had a few tattoos so I knew how much they hurt. Well this one hurt a lot more than my others. It hurt more than the ones I had before and since that time. The whole reason I wanted this tattoo was because I had just been paralyzed in an accident and I was almost killed. I wanted something to remind me of my son. I chose to get a banner with his name and birth date. So after the tattoo, it bled horribly. It also scabbed more than any other tattoo I've had. When it was finally healed, there were spots without ink and the numbers in the date scarred so much that it made those numbers shrink. Now there are still spots with no ink and a couple of the numbers are smaller than the other numbers but also you can see the wrinkles in the number where it scarred.I spoke to a REAL tattoo artist and showed it to him and told him about the pain. He told me that they were too aggressive, went too deep with the needles. I knew when he was doing it that it didn't look right. He was angling the gun back and pushing the needles forward, which I've seen done before, but never to the extreme he was doing it. The skin was actually pushed in and you could see he was pushing down extremely hard. I don't know if this idiot is still working there since I don't remember his name, but I will NEVER go to Magnum again. The tattoo artist that I showed this to has actually been to school for tattooing. I wasn't aware that there were actual schools for tattooing but he explained a few things to me that I wasn't aware of. He said that certain colors work better in certain layers of the skin and there were a lot of things that I didn't know but I'll tell you this, SEARCH FOR YOUR TATTOOISTS!!!!! Just because someone can draw well and is a good artist, that doesn't make them a good tattooist. Before you choose a tattooist, ask them if they've had any formal training. Even seeing tattoos they've done doesn't tell you what kind of tattooist they are. My tattoo looked fine immediately after it was done. It didn't look like crap until it healed. Just be selective. It will be with you forever and a tattoo is a great memory but if it's a bad tattoo, it's going to hurt the memory, thought or meaning of the tattoo. Like I said, just research your tattooist before you get the tattoo. After you get it, it's too late to do the research. Like I said, I don't know if that tattooist is still there but you may want to check it out first or just make it simple, go SOMEPLACE ELSE.
