I found that the Rendezvous Spa was a mixture of high-class and poorly-cared-for facilities, with more issues than not. I visited this spa in January 2011 using a spa package / special deal purchased through the Travelzoo website. The first part was a 30 minute “relaxation” massage. The massage bed had a fitted sheet on it, but the only cover once on the bed was a regular white bath towel. This is the only massage I’ve ever received (and I’ve had at least 30) where a sheet wasn’t provided for cover. A towel is hardly wide enough to cover the bed, much less a person laying on the bed. The massage itself was just mediocre. The masseuse only used about two or three major movements and hardly rubbed on my neck muscles at all. Next was a seaweed body wrap, which I’m extremely glad I didn’t pay full price for. I pictured sheets of seaweed being used, but instead a warm seaweed creamy pureed substance was quickly slathered on my body (took 2 mins?), and I was wrapped in the plastic sheeting on the bed. It took a few minutes before my body produced enough heat to not have goosebumps, so at least the next 15 mins weren’t completely miserable. An eye mask or something would really add a nice touch here, since I felt like she was just trying to get things done as quickly as possible otherwise. The rinse-off was mostly moving the showerheads back and forth and very little else. I was also scheduled for a foot soak, which they had forgotten about and I had to remind them of as they were leading me out. As the lady realized it was on my schedule after all, I was made to wait… and wait… and wait. 5-10 minutes later, when a random employee walked by and asked what I was waiting for, I was taken into a sad-looking room for the footsoak. The room had an old shower stall with a broken tension rod/curtain up to hide the messy pile of towels in it. And the footsoak was literally a plastic storage container (the kind that usually comes with a lid) with a plastic bag and the electronic part of the machine in it. Not exactly luxurious! The wine came in a regular throw-away plastic cup, and the “cheese plate” had small pieces of what was probably Kraft Colby Jack cheese sliced with a few crackers. Overall, this spa describes their services in far more luxury than they actually deliver, and even if they halved their prices, I wouldn’t be a customer. I’m not sure how they got so many good ratings previously, but obviously something has gone downhill at this facility.
