This place has DEFINATLEY taken a turn for the absolute worse. I was last in there Oct 27th and noticed the complete change. Everything from the tacky floor, the missing booths and 50’s memorabilia, ugly paint job, and disappointing menu was horrific from the original California Burger we were accustomed to.
I’m not just critiquing appearance- the food was just bad. The burgers were mediocre, AT BEST. The beef looked (and tasted) like some cheap frozen patty the owners got on sale and even the French fries tasted like they were fried in rancid oil. The biggest disappointment was the milkshakes. Anyone who’s gotten a milk shake from California Burger in the past knows you get a sundae glass filled w/ whipped cream and a cherry, and they bring the rest of the mixing cup for you to refill yourself. Those days are no more. The milk shake I had was a styrofoam cup with no cherry or whipped cream. If that wasn’t bad enough, they used ICE to replace more ice cream- my guess to save cost! I ended up throwing it away because it tasted terrible.
This place now looks more like one of those teriyaki places that sprouts up and disappears a year later. I realized that because of the minimalist ideas the owners have gone. The fact that I had to ASK for salt and ketchup was proof. That trip to the counter made me ask the cashier (NOT waitress) if there was new ownership, she said "no". The lies!
Upon leaving, what really irritated me the most was the ONLY thing they kept from the previous restaurant was a newspaper clipping from the past stating that it was a great place to eat. That article wasn’t written for the current California Burger- it was written for the old one we all knew to love. I was so irritated, I stood there at the door and told two other customers to go elsewhere hoping to save someone from what I just went thru.
At the rate this restaurant is going, I give it 6 months- TOP!!!
