i have been seeing nelly at freddy and lianas for years now. i was EXTREMELY lucky to be seated in her chair on a random walk in appointment. i was more than excited to walk out with a haircut that contours my extremely big and round head. you really need to do your homework before you go there. most of the stylists listen to what you say, and do whatever they feel like doing. I distinctly remember the time i couldnt get an appointment with nelly before by birthday, and ended up getting a haircut from whoever was available. i distinctly said about 3 times "please leave the sides long" the first thing she did was cut a huge portion of the side of my hair. needless to say, i gave her a furious look and she just smiled it off. some of the owners also answer the phones, so if you hear an eastern european guy pick up the phone, dont waste your time. he's more concerned with giving the stylists appointments every 20 minutes than he is giving them appointments they can finish in 20 minutes. As a poor ucla student, i was willing to deal with the hassle of waiting for a haircut appointment, then going to the appointment, having my appointment not be in the books and being forced to come back another day that week, but as an adult, im always shocked by the way they're willing to compromise their simple services in order to save a dollar at the customers expense. they even opened a nail salon in a storage closet in the back, and rented an upstairs loft area to a facialist. now that i can afford $10 more, im willing to search around for someone who's willing to treat me like a paying customer.
