Matsumoto Shave Ice serves the best shave ice on the island, and probably the best shave ice you’ll ever have. It is located in Haleiwa Old Town, on the North Shore (and very far from town where I live), but once in a while, I will take a scenic drive out there just to have some shave ice. Its reputation is well-deserved, as the shave ice is cold, refreshing, and perfect for a hot day. It also has many flavors (lichee, mango, green tea, li-hing, to name a few) and is VERY well-priced – only $1.50 for a small cup (which is actually very filling). For a small extra charge, you can get bigger (huge) sizes and ice cream, azuki beans, condensed milk, etc. with your shave ice. There’s usually a long line, but it is well-worth it, as the customer service is excellent and the shave ice to die for.
