For 70+ years this store was located in the middle of the Diamond District and was a strange and mystical place. They carried the complete works of Edward Gorey before anyone else. They had a James Joyce Society that met upstairs. The place was redolent with the smell of musty paper and was crammed with New York literary history. Last year they sold the building and moved to new quarters. It's smaller, neater and much cleaner and more organized. That being said I miss the ramshackle feel of the old place but the new shop is still one of the best independent book stores in New York.
