Avoid if you like good service 6/17/2007

We should have learned our lesson the last time we went to the Boulder Cafe in Boulder and had a bad dinning experience. But we didn't and thought we'd give the Cafe another chance since the food is generally good. When asked what the specials were, our waiter responded "We have some, but I don't know what they are." Ok, not a big deal. I'm sure in a second or two he's going to say "But let me find out for you, I'll be right back." No such luck. We had to ask him to find out what they were for us. We ordered two appetizers and the empty appetizer trays were left in the middle of the table for the entire meal. With our main dishes and drinks competing for table space, it was really cramped. Maybe our waiter thought we'd get around to finishing off the last calamari piece and thoughtfully left it for us instead of asking if he could take the appetizer trays away when the main dishes arrived. Our empty glasses went unnoticed until the bill arrived. How hard is it to walk by your tables every five to ten minutes to top off water glasses and ask if a patron would like another bar drink? It appears to be a rare skill at this restaurant. Besides loosing income on lost drink sales, you risk loosing customers. If good service doesn't matter to you, give the Cafe a try. The food is generally good. more
