Novice knitters beware. The owner doesn't appear to have very much knowledge of knitting, although there is a knitter with experience who comes during certain hours. The owner (in the absence of the other, more experienced knitter) has given out bogus knitting tips to novice knitters, sold them products that they did not need, and made statements regarding the properties of yarn and knitting practices that are completely untrue. I'm trying to be vague to protect the innocent!!!
The classes are extremely overpriced compared to other yarn shops on Long Island and the projects are questionably basic (gauge swatch class?!?!?!).
If you are a savvy knitter who can see through the above kinds of traps, then the shop has an interesting selection of yarn, although all in the more upscale price range. Whether you're a novice or a more experienced knitter, I'd still recommend Granny's Yarn Shop in Islip over Rumpelstiltskin. Granny has an impressive collection that reflects a wide range of prices and fibers (everything from high-end Noro yarns to Encore wool/acrylic blends), she won't charge you for a pattern to make a garter-stitch scarf (happened in Sayville) and she is a knitter HERSELF and can answer any of your questions without leading you astray....
